I'm 22 days post-op and I had my first drink last Sunday. Just tequila no mixer. Didn't have any problems.

I saw some good advice on another thread:

Be careful about drinking so much that you endulge in too many calories and you drink until you vomit. Some people eat more while drinking too. It's not fun.

My doctor suggests not drinking at all for awhile. I don't drink so it's not a problem for me.

My doctor never told me anything about what he thought. But I had a cranberry vodka 4 weeks after.

My doctor never mentioned drinking. I had a bloody mary about a week after surgery. I would suggest asking your doctor about it. (Even though I didn't do that).

Ask your doc. I was on liquids for 2 weeks post op and can't imagine even WANTING a drink then...I Wanted FOOD! Not liquor ! and liquor would've just made me more likely to cheat, sadly!

Anyway let your surgeon guide you on this.

I had a margarita about 2 weeks after the surgery. I drank it very slowly, and it tasted wonderful! I also had a couple of bites of refried Beans. I felt "normal" again.

I didn't ask when I could have my first drink, but I had my first post-op glass of wine when I started solids - 3 weeks after surgery.

I'ver read where some surgeons say to wait 1 year before consuming alchohol. At the info seminar I attended, my surgeon (who is also banded) says he usually has a martini before dinner, as it helps relax the muscles.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
