Any November 2009 Bandsters??

Recommended Posts

In less than 3 hours I will be ready to go into surgery. My doctor only reccommended that i started the liquid diet yesterday so Yahooo. I bought some vegetarian broth and tried it almost gagged from it but I downed it like a trooper, my dh and daughter have been supported when I was about to give in to temptation after surviving 1 day I know I can do this.

Looking forward to the mushy stage of the process Ha ha and trying to find a different Protein Shake to taste, I bought slimfast on accident so im going to have to get some better than that lol

I hope all goes well with the rest of you and we start our new journeys together :)

Yay! hope yours went okay! let us know :)

I started my liquid diet today - IT SUCKS!! I had Jello for Breakfast and chicken broth for lunch... dinner will be the same lol

I use low carb slim-fast choco and blend it with 1/2 c of milk and some ice and 1 or 2 TB of Peanut Butter in blender. it's YUMMY! try it sometime this week. :)

I need to buy the Protein shake scoop by MaxMuscle- they have 30g of protein, 120 cal, 0 carbs, 0 sugar, 1g fat. they're awesome too.

good luck and take care!!!:tongue2:

Hi there! I am a November bandster as well. My surgery is scheduled for November 23rd the Monday of Thanksgiving week. I will be missing my Mom's wonderful cooking but the end goal is worth it! I have been doing my practice diet for 4 weeks now. I start the pre-surgery liquid diet on Nov. 13. Can anyone tell me what Protein Shakes are good and won't leave an after taste? I have tried Muscle Milk so far, blah! So good to know there are so many others like me out in the world. I am so excited yet scared at the same time. Two more weeks for me before the plunge!

Welcome, and congratulations on your new journey. This is a great place for a lot of info in regards to LB WLS, but always call your surgeon when it comes to the medical questions.

The 30th will be here before you know it, so be sure to check back here often to help make time go by a wee bit faster reading all the posts. One good one to check out for all that are waiting for thier day to come is:

Again, welcome Ready4Life, and keep us updated on your progress!

Cheryl

Thanks a bunch!!! I am really excited for the whole process, I am just ready to LIVE my life!! I am stoked about finding this forum because not too many ppl in my life even know I am doing this, (the really important ones do) but even they don't quite know exactly what I'm going through so I am just really glad to see a bunch of people pretty much in my same boat!! This is gonna be such a great journey and I cant wait! :tongue2: <3 Desiree:cool2:

I have a band date of Nov. 19. I'm freaking out but truly feel I'm making the right decision. How are you all dealing with it? Jitters? Excitement?

Rachel

I am personally freaking out a bit on the inside but also am REALLY excited. I am mostly worried about surgery (because I am a big weanie) lol I am sure everything will be fine but I know I am making the right decision. :tongue2: So as long as you know that and keep a positive mind about it things will go great I'm sure :)

welcome aboard!! what pre-op diet do u have to be on?

I know the feeling abt being banded around the holidays... it's better to lose those holiday lbs instead of gaining them!!!

Good luck on your journey!!! :tongue2:

Thats pretty much how I felt about it lol I was like "ok pops lemme know how that extra 25lbs of christmas dinner feels on new years" haha j/k j/k but I am not on any preop diet yet, I have my nutrition consult this friday so I am a little nervous about what yukky things I will have to drink, but whatever I have lived through worse im sure! :) Got any good suggestions for Protein Shakes and whatnot? Although I am very upset about my postponed surgery due to extra testing, I am proud of myself for staying on my pre op diet today. Its already been two weeks and I have to stay on it just in case I can have surgery on my new date the 17th. After getting the call today that it was a "no-go" I got really depressed and called a chinese restaurant. But guess what!! I ordered steamed brocolli with no rice or sauce. Yeah...it was like someone else was talking for me. I realized later I totally wasted money buying a container of steamed brocolli. LOL! But hallelujah I didn't cheat!!!! Besides my Protein Shakes, I can have two cups of non-starchy vegetables a day. I am still feeling really down because instead of getting my band, I will be at work tomorrow. But I DIDN'T SMOKE, I DIDN'T BINGE ON CARBS AND I DIDN'T DRINK!! Woo hoo! Why can't I have this kind of will power any other time?

Hi November Bandsters. This is the first time I have posted. I got the news today, insurance comp. approved my surgery. I am very pumped. I see my primary physician tomorrow for pre-op tests, I go for pre-op prep class on Wed. and see my surgion the same day. My LB surgery is scheduled for November 17. Wahoo!!! Will start liquid diet tomorrow AM. After waiting so long (started this journey in April) my ins. approval has caught me off guard. They had 30 days to revue my appeal and I figured that they would wait till the last so wasn't expecting any reply till end of Nov. When the nurse called today I had a lot of mixed emotions. My dh and I go to Cabo the first week in Dec. I will be on liquids over Thanksgiving and soft diet when we go to Cabo but if I wait until we come home it will be soft for Xmas. I don't want to keep putting this off. I decided, reality is that this is going to be my new life. I will never again eat the way I have in the past so might as well get started.

Every holliday I wind up promising myself I will not gain weight and every holliday I gain weight! Last Christmas was the worse....right after xmas day we went on a cruise for a week so that piled on even more pounds. This year I WILL LOOSE!

I don't know why any of us can't have this type of control all the time. But you did today and you will tomorrow. Keep up the good work!!

Well gang, I had my surgery today and was surprisingly NOT nervous. All went well and I'm fine, except for a lot of soreness by the incision where the band was inserted and the port is, when I have to stand up or sit down. They told me that is to be expected. I haven't needed much pain med. but who knows what tomorrow will bring. Was on Clear Liquids and doing fine. I'll keep you posted...

By the way, I didn't have much discomfort from gas today as I was told I would by some previous bandsters. Hopefully the lack of gas will continue.:tongue2:

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
