I was involved in a car accident, which caused my band to slip! Please Read!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was involved in a car accident on Tuesday. I was rear ended on Tuesday, my neck and head was hurting me. I had no signs of my band having troubles/issues until the next day. I was at workign and noticed I couldn't keep anything down... (water... solids) etc. I started to experience pains where my port is... So I drove myself to the hospital to see if I can have some liquid removed... My doctor.. (Dr. Soong... he is the best!) said he wanted to get an xray to see if the band is alright... well it wasnt.. My band had not only slipped but also moved.. By that time I was in soooooo much pain.. I can't even discribe the pain I was in... I had to have surgery the next day (yesterday) and have the band repositioned. After I came out of surgery I felt ten times better. So now I am basically starting all over.. Just liquids for 3 weeks.. etc... I am posting this because if anyone gets in an accident, please please please have them check you ASAP to avoid going through what I did..

Sorry to hear about the accident, glad that you weren't seriously hurt. Also glad that your surgeon was on the ball and sorted the problem out really quickly.

I went to the fair last night and rode all the rides. First I called my Doctor and asked if it was ok and he told me yes and to have a great time. I was Banded june 30th. I asked my Dr about the car accident as well, and he said was shocked to hear that. He said he has never had a pt's band slip from a car accidents or riding fair rides. That I should not worry about it and live my life. So after you get your Dr's OK (of course) I hope you have a great time and make the best of your trip with wonderful memories..:)

Thank you everyone for the well wishes! Yeah it took me completley by surprise when my doctor said that the accident caused the slip. ( I think it actually took him by surprise as well, because he said he has never seen this actually happen.) I was in so so so so so SOOOO much pain. I don't want anyone to go through what I went through. I can't even discribe the pain because it was so unbareable. They kept on giving me Morphin which helped cause the pain to subside for maybe an hour but then after it hit my body I was just throwing up... Ahh I pray that no one ever has to go through what I had to.. NOT FUN....

So now I am starting over.. which I needed because I had just passed my year mark and my weightloss was going very slow.. so now I am going to do everything right and try and stay focused. lol

I just want to be clear and let everyone know I was saying, if you are involved in an accident then its a good idea to get checked up, because you never know. When I was invovled in my car accident, I went to the hosptial and only had my neck and head checked out. It wasnt the next day that I started to experience the pain. I didn't put this post out there to scare anyone, only to inform everyone because I did not want anyone to go through what I had gone through. I trust what my doctor has said and believe his word.

Glad you are ok!!! I have a horse and ride regularly and occasionally I do fall off (gone 7 years w/o a fall and lately I have had 3 in one year). I specifically asked this question of the Dr because hey your falling on the ground from a height and this was my fear. She said to me often people who have accidents have asked this but its rare to have a problem - she said if you have a problem you will know it. Can I ask how quickly you acted once you felt you weren't keeping anything down? Is there anything we can learn from that - ie. if you have any impacts and ur not keeping anything down - don't wait go to ER immediately. Or your doctor. ????

thank you! I started noticing the next morning that something wasnt right because it was painful to drink and eat. As the day progressed, it became more and more intense. i started to throw up everything. Around 5 pm i couldnt take the pain and went to the ER. so i would say a good 8 to 10 hours after the accident.

I was in a terrible car accident on 10/26/18 and just noticed this hours ago. Both my steering wheel and knee driver airbags deployed. Lots of chest and face contusions. I felt something that caused some discomfort at Port, but now seeing this is freaking me out. I had my LB Surgery in 4/05 and love life, but now.... WTH.... going to see a W/C doc tomorrow, and hoping my bariatric doc calls me before the appt. Be Well Folks and please drive safe!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
