First Day Post-Op, these forums help! (I have a q as well)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am "new" to this site in that I just registered today, but I have lurked around here in the months before I banded. Yesterday was my surgery day, and I have to say already I have found these forums to be a great resource. After I got home and rested up, I decided to step on the scale and WOAH that was a mistake! It said I was up 9 pounds. I freaked out and started to worry about the band and what had happened.

Today I weigh only 6 pounds over my pre-banded weight, and realized I need to push these fluids to get the hospital meds and things they pumped into me flushed out. I am glad these forums are here, if they weren't I would still be freaking out thinking there was something completely wrong with ME.

As far as just getting banded, I was wondering if anyone had some advice as to what Protein Shakes are good?? I am currently drinking SNI Pro whey Advanced Protein Blend in chocolate, and it tastes like choco-dust to me. Not a fan of chocolate as it is, but I knew it would be a safe bet for getting protein in me. Does anyone have any reccomendations for someone who doesn't like chocolate?

Also, when did others start to feel better? I feel like I did a bazillion crunches yesterday.

Thanks!!

Congratulations on being banded! I tried the Designer Whey Protein (Chocolate) and Trader Joe's Soy Protein, and liked them both. I started adding them to Jello SF/FF Instant pudding when I went to the mushie stage to increase the protein content. I have heard good thoings about powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. I have only tried their chicken broth Protein powder, which I highly recommend. It has 21g of protein. The chicken broth is particularly comforting after surgery or a fill. I still use it in cooking, adding it to Soups, mashed potatoes, etc. Unjury sells sample sizes, so you can see if you like it first before ordering a large container.

I also like Isopure ZeroCarb Protein drinks. Its a nice break from the shakes. My favorite flavors are Green Lemon Tea & Blue Raspberry. A 20oz bottle has 40g protein.

I've also heard very good things about Syntrax nectar protein mixes. They have some really interesting flavors I haven't tried them yet, but they are on my list of things to buy. You can also get a sample pack. They have some really great sounding flavors - Apple Ectasy, Cappuccino, Roadside Lemonade, vanilla Bean Torte.

Don't worry about your weight now. It took at least 10 days before I even noticed the swelling in my belly start to go down, so I wasn't anxious to step on a scale. One thing I can say, is everyday I felt a little better.

Good luck on the journey.

I got banded Monday, 3 days ago. I too stepped on the scale and saw a 6lb increase from my immediate pre-op wt. I knew it was IV fluids. Haven't been on the scale since. I get alot of good info here on this site. Regarding Protein Drinks, I use Syntrax Nectar. It comes in a 2lb jug and cost around $29. My favorite flavor is caribbean cooler, it tastes like pina colada. They have alot of fruity flavors that you mix w/ juice or Water so the flavor is good. One scoop in 8oz of water = 23g of Protein. (no fats, carbs, or sugar) I'm not a big chocolate flavor girl either. Good luck with your progress. We can get skinny together!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
