Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Recommended Posts

Good morning, Violets..

Keeping my fingers toes and eyes crossed for you PamELa!!! I'm sure you will be approved and you'll be in the new place before you know it!

3 cars?? You have 3 cars??? We have 2 and sometimes only 1 because Joe uses it when his car isn't running which is like right now. It's supposed to be fixed today and I'll get my car back.

Your weather sounds lovely. It's 18 here and the highs for this weekend will be 28. Such a difference, eh?

I started going back to my "gym" yesterday. I decided to do my glider in 10 minute blocks. That way I can do it while Ethan is here and have no excuse not to. I did 20 minutes yesterday and hope to get 30 in today. With my knee and shoulder issues, walking is not possible right now. The glider is no impact so that works for me. We shall see.

I'm going to a church ladies luncheon today. Should be interesting. The pastor's wife will be there... ugh. After that Ethan will be here and Grady comes for an hour later. So you see my day is pretty much planned!

Everyone have a good one.

Michelle... were you able to get out and about and get Mo taken care of???

Haydeeeeeee...where are you??????

Hello...

Was up 'til about 2am w/Mo again last night... he was moaning & groaning more than ever and I came this close to taking him to the overnight emergency vet... but road conditions kept me nursing him here. I was up @ 6 and out the door w/ him so we'd be @ the vet when they opened @ 8. I left him for more roto rootering.

I know I've been sharing poor Mo's travails w/you all... but I wish there was a way for me to really express my utter anguish this past week... every moment has been spent worrying, monitoring, tending, nursing, analyzing, fretting, wondering, feeling guilty, washing -- SOMEthing related to that lil' guy. I feel so so badly for him because I know he's in so much pain and doesn't understand what's going on or why I leave him at that scary place where they do those invasive things to him. He did seem peppier when we brought him home on Tues, after he got 1/2 cleaned out... but then, as Weds & Thurs wore on, & he didn't poop on his own, he got more lethargic & in pain again... this has just torn me up emotionally & financially... & knowing that it's all my responsibility to keep up his increasing care/meds makes me crazy... because if/when this happens again, it's bye=bye Mo... can you tell I'm all twisted up about this??

Sorry to ramble... I just need to vent... get some of these thoughts out of my head...

Michelle -- I know how hard this is....I had a very sick kitty 7 years ago. Go with your gut and talk to Mo. He'll let you know what he wants.

HUGS to you and Mo.

We had that middle school shooting last friday, and a college shooting this Friday. What the hell is wrong with people???

So far they said 3 are dead, 1 critical, 10 en route to hospital.. all faculty, and they said it's another faculty member that did it.

Good evening, Violets..

Ahhhh peace and quiet. Grandkids are gone and it's just the Bobster and me here. We are headed out of town tomorrow.. he has someone in the hospital to visit and I'm going along for the ride and some shopping. It's a 3 hour drive so I'm taking my Kindle with me.

Laura.. I read about the shooting at the University.. female faculty member didn't get the tenure she thought she deserved. Totally wacko.

Michelle..I understand how you feel about Mo. We get so attached to these little ones. Sure hope this round of roto rootering does the trick for him.

Off to do some more glider exercise while I watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. I got 10 minutes in today already. It's amazing how fast the 10 minutes go. And they say 10 minutes 3X is as helpful as 30 minutes 1X. Let's hope they're right!

Everyone have a great evening....Sleep well.

Michelle, I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better. There is no easy simple answer is there, don't ever worry about venting! If you ever need to talk feel free to call me.

I am watching the Olympics, it is really something the amount of work that goes into a 3-4 hour show!!

Laura that is horrible, didn't hear about that, what makes some people do that, I am sure she is one that they say would never do that...............

Good Morn,

The vet called... Mo didn't poop overnight so they're going to "work" on him some more this a.m.... I cringe when I imagine what his lil' bum bum must feel like! We're supposed to go get him @ Noon today.

When the vet called w/an update last night, he said that he didn't want to get our hopes up. & then he said that Mo did all right with the anesthesia: propofol! A year ago I wouldn't have known what that was, but now...

I have a simple goal today: not to cry. Not sure that'll happen. I need to buck up and take care of business, whatever that entails. Enough of this mushy stuff!

Laura, I heard about that! Terrible! My ears always perk up when the news mentions Vi towns/states: Ala, Alpena (Al Roker frequently points out Alpena!), St. Louis, Houston, LA/Palm Springs.

Suzy, I heard that now there's snow in 49 states! Wish I was in HI...

Janie! I got my adorable tweezers in the mail yesterday! What a treat, especially as we haven't had mail service in a week! THANK YOU!!

Judy, I believe that that is what "they" (whoever "they" are!) say, 10 x 3 = 30 however you break it up. Good for you! KUTGW! Enjoy your day!

Pam, did your bro get to see the house? Did he just love it? Sounds like you've got an enjoyable weekend planned. Hi to Susanne!

I watched the opening ceremonies last night, too. I'm a sucker for stuff like that... it's amazing how they create all those effects, like the whales swimming across the stadium, etc! I went to bed around the fiddling time, but dvr'd it for later.

Ok... off to clean the bathroom in prep for Mo's return, and then do some work, and then some baking for the horse show & VD tomorrow, and, and, and...

Oh, speaking of which... I bought VD cards for you all awhile back, but for obvious meteorological reasons they didn't get mailed... sorry! I do love you all! I'll probably send them at some random time during the year...

Ok... bye!

Hey Girls~

Yes, John LOVED the house. This is the hard part...waiting. We are not packing yet, just want to get "deeper" into escrow before we start to uproot ourselves. Also, we have no rush and a week off after we close to move. SIGH!!!

We are going to see Wolfman today! I went to bed saying that I'd be at the gym this morning...but I am drinking coffee instead.

Oh yeah, for the record...I LOVE cold sopapilla cheesecake...omg it is like candy!

Have a great day girlies! As for Valentines we got cards and A BIG BRAND NEW HOUSE for each other...so nothing really special planned!

Much love for you Michelle~ hoping Mo's feeling better and the nightmare is over for ya'll!

LOL MICHELLE!!! I love how you said that... how does it get cold??? I spewed my Water

I have been trying to pretend not to see the sopapilla talk. LA LA LA LA. I made brownies for our v'day dinner tonight. I don't love brownies, so I can stop at just one. Sopapilla on the other hand... hey, I think I have ingredient to make sopapilla!! UH OH.

The shooting, they said it was during a faculty meeting, over tenure.. was one of the bio professors who is known nationally for her.. whatever-ness (crazy?!).. and she graduated from harvard. I now see why they didn't give her tenure, she obviously isn't right in the head.

Russ said he is feeling more and more Carson HAS to go to private school. I just wonder if that'll even help!!

Holy crap, 1/12 of the recipe is about 500 calories. 1/12?! Can it be divided between 12 normal folks??

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie | LIVESTRONG.COM

161 calories in 1/8th of this recipe.

Someone try this healthier version and let me know if it compares hehe.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
