9/2/2009 Status Report for August Bandits!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I figured it was time to start another thread to see how people were doing since the last time I started a status update.

As for me, I am one week out from surgery today, woohoo!

So far all is going good. I think that I am starting to "long for" foods other than my creamy Soups, Protein shakes, soupy oatmeal, and yogurt. Bring on the purees and mushies!!!:tt2: Tonight at the store I bought yams, turkey, and other things to cook, puree, and freeze so I will be ready "as soon as I can" have them! I go see my doctor next week. I hope I can make it until then! I did have frozen yogurt today with a friend... it was very yummy. Not sure if it was allowed but it went down ok. So far everything is going down ok actually.

I'm feeling pretty good. I thought my stomach was hurting but now I think it was just gas? I'm thinking I need to try to get down some Fiber somehow. I don't want to take a commercial chemical laxative but I think I need something. Maybe if I slowly add the psyllium husk Fiber to Water and drink it over the course of the day..? We'll see...

As for pain, I now know what everyone means about "pain in the port area". I feel it... and sometimes it is just darn achy. I was getting my nails done today and had a problem sitting up in the chair too long, had to lay back for a while. I'm trying to get a bit more movement every day. It has been hot here in San Diego so I haven't been able to get out during the day to walk (plus I am technically working from home). I do take my dog for a walk around the block in the evening. I could use the coat rack, um I mean treadmill I suppose! :blushing:

I'm anxious to feel 100%. From what I've read 10 days is a turning point for a lot of people.. I hope it is for me too!

I am losing weight though.. down 20 lbs since starting the pre-op diet on August 15th!:) I know that won't continue, and I don't want it to. I would rather be slow and steady, have a lot of energy to exercise and be "fit" rather than a saggy bag of bones. :tt1:

How is everyone else doing? I enjoy reading your progress!!

I'm 5 weeks out (banded 8/4). I'm down 18 pounds and holding. Going to see my doc today for my first post-op appt. and hopefully he will schedule me for a fill SOON! I don't feel any restriction but am trying to still eat very small amounts. My energy level us way up and I feel great except for the cold/allergies I started a couple of days ago.

I am 9 days out and feeling pretty good! I have lost a total of 18 lbs! I go on solids (soft solids) today. I'm craving some baked fish really bad! Funny how each doctor is different when it comes to our pre and post diets... Even though he's going to let me start solids this evening, I am really going to take it easy and not go overboard. Plus I want to keep losing...

Great progress so far y'all!

I'm one month out, I saw my surgeon yesterday for my second post-op, I will see him again in a month. I've lost 30 pounds total so far.

No fills yet, I am getting restriction from my 1/2c food I eat every meal. I'm averaging about 800-1000 calories a day. I write down everything I stick in my mouth so I'm accountable for what I eat.

I walk on my treadmill for 20 mins, then do other exersizes and yoga on my WiiFit for 30 mins at least 4-5 times a week.

I've been on solids for about 2 weeks now, so far nothing has gotten stuck only dry foods pose a bit of uncomfortableness. I try to avoid them.

So happy to report, doing good so far. I hope I can continue to stay on this weight loss track, I've had to get new pants since my old ones kept falling off!

Keep up the good work everybody!

Almost a month post op and feeling great !! Got my first fill today, total of 4.5cc in my 10cc band. I doubt that I'll feel restriction ( don't even know what I should look for??) but we're going down the right path !! I'm also down 25.5 lbs:tt1: almost at my 10% goal, just shy by 0.5 lbs. :sneaky:

Yeah! I'm 10 days post op. Doing ok so far -- latest issue is back pain, middle of back, right around where the bra line is. The shoulder pain from the gas is better now, did it move to my back?

any input is appreciated! :-)

Today is day 8 post op for me. I'm doing great! Down 21 lbs since pre diet August 14th. YAY! I'm starting to see a change in my face and tummy. I can also fit into some old old jeans lol. I have figured out I'm addicted to weighing myself which is not good, but it makes my day!:) Well, hope all is well for everyone else and GOOD LUCK everyone!:)

A day shy of 3 weeks and 15 pounds down. Once I started mushies last week my weight loss kinda stalled. Between that, and being really constipated I've been trying to up my Water and get moving on the treadmill! Feeling great otherwise!

Today makes a full month since surgery, my weight lost has stalled since I started mushies and food, although I had gained three pounds they are now gone again, so a total of 20lbs from my heavist and 18lbs since the surgery, which is awesome. I am still on soft foods, I have tried eating regular foods in small portions twice and ended up with this scratchy throat feeling and ended up going back to mushies and soft foods.

I did have one instance where bread got stuck for almost a day it wasn't a full blockage, because I could still get my protien shake down but boy did I have to burp, so I ended up drinking a soda to get a good one up and it finally moved... but I felt swollen afterwards and went to liquids for a day and felt better.

I am back to work, and back to real life running around and working all kinds of hours, My middle daughter had open heart surgery two weeks ago so we have been up with here most of the week and trying to keep up with my protien intake is still a little challenging, I am done with the protien shakes trying to get it through my foods.

No port pain but I wake up in the mornings and now know what it means that the band is tight, my throat is also sore, and I am not sure if it is the hiatal hernia repair or what... but intersting I do know that ice Water feels really good first thing in the morning.

So far loving the band

Sounds like that 18 pounds and holding is the magic # for those at the one month out time period. I am at that point as well. I am trying to make sure I dont overeat. I dont feel the full feeling for a little while, but by the time I feel it, I have eaten a bit more than I am comfortable with. I find even though I am on regular foods now, I still find mushy foods to be a little easier to eat. I can manage the regular food, they just take a LOT more work while eating. I get my first fill in a week and a half from now. I don't know what to expect from that. I guess we will all be seeing soon, eh~

I was banded 8/24, so I'll be exactly 2 weeks post-op tomorrow. Going back to work on Tuesday. Should be fun. Yeah. Heh.

I've had a really good recovery to this point and I'm glad of it. I feel good and I'm glad to hear that many of the rest of us banded in Aug are feeling and doing well.

Thanks to the original poster for setting up this status report thread!

I was banded on 8/10 and have been doing great until this week. I started on "soft" regular foods and feel like I am eating too much. I ate a roll last night and it went straight down. Maybe I'm over doing it. I've lost 18lbs so far but my weight has definitely stalled. I have my first fill on 9/16 - I'm wondering if I should move that up to this week.

At first I missed certain foods but now I miss feeling that "fullness" in my chest that says your done! I had a little bit of fajita chicken tonight with no problems, meaning I never felt full after eating the chicken and some peppers.

I think I'm just overly paranoid and think something is wrong, when it probably isn't but I keep thinking I've stretched my pouch, or my band has slipped, or something crazy like that. Am I crazy or do you all have those thoughts and feelings too?

I'm sure it is just a phase but I'm ready to get this party moving!

I was banded on Aug 13 and doing really well. The port pain is bothersome but is getting better. I have lost a total of 17 pounds and seems as if I am holding. I go to the doctor for my second post appointment on September 15. Not sure if I am doing the right thing but I break my meals up to four times a day. Each meal consist of only 2 or less ounces of mushie. I am so sick of mashed potatoes and soft stuff. During the week I try to walk at least a mile each day but I think I am going to try and up it this week. My face has really slimed down and I can tell the difference in my clothes. I was hoping to lose more but I am happy for the pounds I have lost. The port pain has kept me from walking as much. It is also hard to get all of the fluids in a days time, since back at work because I am constantly moving around. I guess I will have to wait and see what the doctor says when I go back. I am definately happy with the current weight lose.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
