Anyone with a Port in the chest area instead of on thier side?

Recommended Posts

My port is located at the top of my rib cage. I know because I can feel it and that is where I got my fill. I was going to ask Dr why it was there, but forget, it was my first fill and I was nervious. Anyone else have one there? It is located at my top scar which is the largest and was bruise really bad.:)

My port was placed in the same location. This was done because I had a wound close to the area on my side where it originally was supposed to be located. I haven't had my fill yet, but my M.D. assured me that this location should not be a problem. I was banded on July 31st. If you are still having pain, I would say you need to contact your Dr. Otherwise I don't think from what I've been told there is anything to be concerned about. BTW...how do you feel after your fill? I have mine on Sept. 8th.

My port is right below my rib cage on the left hand side, near the largest scar.

I have bruised when getting a fill. It has just depended on how much they have to poke around to hit the port. Most of the time I do not bruise, but may be a little tender for a day or two.

I did not bruise when I got my first fill, but it did sting like a bee sting for a couple of minutes. I just thought it was weird after surgery I could feel something and crazy me I thought I was feeling my band somehow because everything I read when I did reaserch always showed the port on the side. But no my port is in the center of my chest by the rib cage. Glad to know I am not alone.

Hi. I too am in Houston and was banded on July 15, 2009. My port is up high too and I did ask my doctor about it. He said I had too much stomach fat and he was afraid if he put it lower, then he would have a hard time doing the fills. Hope this helps.

Okay I am not asking then because that is probably why mine is there too. But I don't want to hear it.:)

my port is also just below my breast bone. i was told that my surgeon picks this spot because after our weight loss, we can wear bikini tops and the scar will be hidden! i was thankful and also inspired that he thought it possible to look good in a bikini top or bra! also, if it is on either side, it makes side sleeping uncomfortable initially. so be thankful! good luck!!!! lisa6

I was banded on Aug 25th & my port was also placed just below my breastbone (sternum). My surgeon said he's found it easier for the patient because there is usually less fat in this area & easier to get to. Right now, it's the most painful of my incisions but I'm not even a week out yet. My friends who've had their ports placed around their waist area report painful fills & put off going to get fills because of it.

I was really sore there too for a couple of weeks. But now I never feel it unless I try to find it. My fill just felt like a bee sting for a couple of minutes. Good Luck to You!

Mine is in the middle too. I am glad that it is there because like someone said earlier, the scar will be covered if I ever want to wear a bikini.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
