Lost Too Much Weight

Recommended Posts

Glad to hear you are feeling better a bit better. Other than the quantity issue, what your Doctor and nutritionist laid out sounds pretty normal. If your doctor allows it, there are probiotic capsules (they are rather large) to take when antibiotics, affect the good bacteria. Been there. My doctor recommended them but I didn't have this problem post surgery. health food stores carry them in the refrigeration section.

Sue,

Thank you soo much for your concern, advice, and support. I'm really relieved that was I was able to see my pcp today and actually have a long discussion with my surgeon (he's out of state). It was also nice to see my program coordinator and the nutritionist today and go over what I should be eating and how much.

I did learn that they do make probiotic pearls and I bought some. I'm eating Soup, apple sauce, and fudgecicles. I have not had diarrhea since yesterday.

My doctors and my nutritionist stressed that I'd vomit if I overate. It all makes sense, since the band forms a type of funnel. It will overflow at the top, making you vomit before it will overflow at the bottom. This was all explained to me at my education seminar but I had forgotten in my panic. After seeing the diagrams again and having it all explained, it all makes sense to me and I am relieved. And I am feeling SOO much better.

Thanks again, Sue!!

Amy,

So glad to hear you are feeling much better!

I've been even more active today so my little gas issue is hopefully going to resolve itself soon.

I can't believe I am 7 days post-op myself. My mother, son and his girlfriend all have made comments ALREADY about how they can tell I've lost weight! Hope they aren't just trying to make me feel good? lol

I love this forum. I live in an area where there just aren't any support groups. I think they have Overeaters Anon... but that is it?

Thank you all for being here.

Much Love,

Carleen

Hi Carleen!!

It's so great to hear back from you!

WOW!! 7 Days already! Time flies, doesn't it?!! I'm 6 days post-op. I'm POSITIVE that you've lost weight and that it's noticeable. YAY!! ;)

I was out and about today and people asked if I had lost weight. My pcp and my nutritionist weighed me yesterday and I had lost 6.2 lbs since Dec 23rd! I can tell the difference in my clothes and in my watch. I put my watch on for the first time since surgery and it just dangled on my wrist. It was an awesome feeling.

I agree with you. This forum is great for support. My friends, family, and even some of my doctors did not feel that I should get this surgery. When I was frustrated and depressed, I was able to find comfort and support here.

I'm still experiencing some pain around the port site and discomfort when doing certain movements, such as bending to put my shoes on and off. Other than that, I'm doing much better. I'm still experiencing gas on and off but no diarrhea!

Have a great night, Carleen and keep us updated on your progress. I start my solid food on Thursday. I can't wait! I'm starving! :w00t:

Hugs,

Amy

I'm 8 days post-op and went back to work today. I worked 9 hours and oh my!! I can FEEL it!! I definitely went back too soon. I hope I didn't cause any damage to the band itself, the port, or any of the incision sites.

A lesson learned. I will be taking the next week off.

On a brighter note:

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! HAVE A FABULOUS, ROCKIN' 2010!!

I am soo excited to be on this journey right now. It feels SO great to be banded!!

I thought there was a weight restriction too on lifting. I questioned my surgeon about this issue and he said I was fine. His staff also said during the education classes that I could do anything as long as it didn't hurt.

Anyways... here's my story...

I'm a cashier at a local grocery store. Not to complain but they put me on a 9 hr shift (9 am-6 pm) my first day back. And on top of it, they only gave me a bagger from 9-1. I had to do my own bagging from 1-6pm. I was exhausted by 10 am and in severe pain by noon. I was in tears by 3 pm and begging to go home by 4 pm. They let me go home at 5:45 pm. I almost went to the ER last night the pain was so severe. It was worst than the day of surgery. But I couldn't go b/c my insurance expired at midnight.

Now my port area is swollen and I am in a lot of pain.

I'm scared that I might've damaged something. :)

Anyways, I called off today. I also explained that I would not be returning to work before Jan 8th. It looks like I will not be returning for awhile considering what kind of work I do.

Sorry about venting....

Thanks everyone for listening to me. Thanks for all the support and advice.

Amy, At this point, just rest and take it easy.. Lifting includes pushingitems down the check out counter, 20 # may be the max but you were probably doing it over end over. If you bagged, you probably did lift too much. ( Been there) just let your surgery heal. take some pain meds and rest.

Why do I feel like I keep making stupid mistakes??

Amy, Welcome to the club, we all make mistakes. This is a learning process. Remember, when a toddler is learning to walk, we don't scold or berate them when they fall. You, are a toddler in this lapband experience. For now, just rest. Perhaps your surgeon underestimated how much you lift, push, and pull, so they left it up to you. Where i work, I had to have a note if there was any restriction; it was a liability issue. Most places do. Being at home and setting your own schedule is one thing , being in the work place is different. See how you feel in a few days. I did too much last Dec after banding -everything turned out OK but i worried, also. Right now you need to heal and rest.

Good analogy, Sue. Thanks soo much. I've been resting all day and that's what's on my schedule for this weekend.

I'm going on 12 days post-op and still don't feel well. I'm experiencing a lot of pain around the port area and around my belly button. I noticed that my belly button area is bruised today. It hurts to get in and out of bed. It hurts to stand and to even walk. I can't bend over without being in severe pain. I feel like I'm 3 days post-op.

All I've done since Thursday evening has been resting. Anyone else experience a rough recovery?

Amy, You are also about 3 days post going back to work. The areas you mention would be sore from your attempt to go back to work. Still rest. You will feel bette rin another day or 2. rest is the best medicine.

You're right, Sue. I see my surgeon tomorrow~ Tues. Jan 5th. I'm excited to see him and to make sure that everything is okay. I'm sure it is but it'll be great to hear it from him!

I'm still stiff and sore. Worse than I was last Monday. But I know it's because I went back to work too soon.

I haven't started exercising yet because I'm afraid of doing damage to the band and/or port. And honestly, I've been in too much pain to do anything. I thought I'd wait to see my dr. first before I started to do any sort of physical activity again. Hopefully, he'll put my mind to ease and I'll start walking on the treadmill tomorrow. :smile2:

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
