Lost Too Much Weight

Recommended Posts

My current BMI is approximately 34. Co-mobity's??? I'm not sure of. I'm sorry... what would those be??? I had a lot of health problems when I was heavier, such as a fatty liver, but that has resolved itself with weight loss.

co-morbidities are things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc... Your insurance policy should outline what they consider to be co-morbidities for this surgery. Like you, I have lost weight only to gain it back all of my life. I had surgery @ 200lbs & the comorbidity that "counted" was my high cholesterol. The doc included in his paperwork the fact that I have GERD, and mild stress incontinence as well. I would make sure the doctor is aware of your history of significant weight loss only to gain it back. Best of luck to you.

BCBS won't deny you and the surgeon is in it to make money as well... I am sure we all have lost weight and then regain it... Just think b/c you don't want to start the process all over again in a few years!

Nip this problem in the bud! Congrats on your weight loss... the Band is a tool to help you lose the weight and KEEP IT OFF

umystifyme,

No offense to greytz but . . . psychotherapy may be a great tool but the band has proven itself to have much better results for keeping weight off. Most of us are life-long dieters with a lose and regain cycle. I have been on depression meds, etc to try and fight the cycle but I have been unsuccessful. Not to say that you can't "slay the dragon" with some therapy but for most of us, the cycle is only broken by the band. JMHO

I have high cholesterol and high triglycerides, even on medication. I did have a fatty liver until last month. My family practitioner is well aware of my history of weight loss and weight gain. He's seen my struggle with weight for over 11 years and is behind me 100% on the surgery. Thank you for the information. I truly appreciate it! :w00t:

I totally agree with you. I have been in psychotherapy on and off for almost 17 years. I have also been on medication for depression and anxiety for almost 17 years. In 17 years I have proven that I am a life-long dieter with a lose and regain cycle. The medication and therapy has not helped with my weight loss obviously. I really do appreciate everyone's comments and opinions. I was looking for some other view points and I got them. And I am glad that I did. I realize now that I am making the right choice by going ahead with the surgery... keeping everything crossed that my insurance will approve me!! Thanks again!! :frown:

Hi umystifyme, I live in Kankakee, but I use to live in Beecher. I actually worked at Knuths there and am amazed how it has grown. Great little ( or not so little now) town to live.

Ok, to get back on track here, I also have BCBS PPO, but am not sure about your question. I do think however your insurance goes by what your starting weight and BMI was, but your Doctors nurse could best answer that. I would call them and ask, if for no other reason than to answer your questions. One way or another you can decide what path to take, but somehow I feel it will all work out ok. After all, all of us that post here could take off the weight, it was the keeping it off that has us seeking the various wls!!!!

Please let us know what happens!:frown:

How much did you loose? I am morbidly obese so MY insurance company was thrilled with the surgery but DID want to see the history, This is not the time to crash diet becasue youknow you will gain it back. I luckily had it done.

A friend of mine very large he carefully did not loose any weight during the approval time so his insurance company would not deny him. HE was very very large but medical issues was not a consideration since he had NONE. After two years he is looosing, consistant and all of laugh when we see him because if he had dieted before he would never have been approved.

Insurance is a crazy system. If the dr says that you lost to much weight...GO BACK>>LOOK ASHAMED AND TELL HIM YOU HAVE BEEN CHUCKINg UP YOUr food AND USED DIERETICS LIKE LOADS OF teAS Etc>>>CHEcK GOOGLE AND THEN HE (SHE) CAN REAPPLY TO THE INSURANCE CO< YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDEred MENTAL>>JUST A DESPERATE OVERWEIGHT INDIVIDUAL...just thought that and I think that will definitely work for you.

Hi GraciesMom!!

Small world, eh??!!

My doctor did say that the insurance company goes by your starting weight and your starting BMI. HOWEVER, he did say that my BMI was under 35 right now and that at my current weight, I was not a candidate and that the insurance company COULD argue that if I lost this much weight in 6 months without the band then I don't need the surgery. My fear is that a lot of my co-morbidities went away as the pounds melted away. At the moment, I don't have any co-morbidities. Everything is under control with diet, exercise, and medication. But I did have them at the beginning of this program and during. I will have to call his office and talk to him on Monday and see if the insurance will hold this against me. I hope not. I'm really hoping and praying that all goes well and that I am approved. Please people, please.... please pray for me. I really want this "reinforcer" for life and I need my insurance to approve this. After talking to the doctor and his assistant, my documents will be sent in for approval. This is driving me crazy!!

I have to be careful... I was diagnosed with chronic depression in December 1992. I am on psych meds and I can't lie about taking additional medication.

Umystifyme, I would highly recommend that you talk to your surgeon, (and gp, if necessary) about proving your history before you try anything else.

To be honest Jollygreen, i feel this is a very negative recommendation and could end up having more ramifications for Umystifyme than needed. What if her surgeon doesn't just take it that she is desperate to have the band? Saying that you have taken diuretics and been throwing up is a lot more serious than purposely not losing weight to get the band. What if they think she isn't in the right mental state to have the band?

No worries! I wish you luck with your future appointments and I think if you can prove your history, you will be fine.

Talk through your concerns with your surgeon and tell him how it's making you feel about the possibility of not being able to get the band. I sympathise with you as I thought I may not be able to get the band due to not having any co-morbidities. Due to anxiety issues, I am also on anti-depressants and I can only imagine the worry you are feeling now. I think you have done a great job losing the weight that you have. I am sure there are many people that have done the same as you and ended up being banded. Try not to stress too much

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
