I am 2 days post-op.. and I am surprised how good I feel..I have some tenderness around incision sites, a little gas and that's it.. I am not hungry at all..I have been doing my sips of tea and Water and I am delightfully pleased at how this is going.I took a shower today, that felt sooo good... I am almost waiting for the bad pains to start..I have had 2 c-sections and tubal ligation, so I have had abdominal surgery.. I know that it does hurt at some point.. But when.. haven't stepped on the scale , I am not ready to see that..

Has anyone else experienced such a smooth recovery?? or am I a rare breed, LOL!!

ttfn back to sipping tea, yummy...

I'm glad you are doing so well! I had a pretty smooth postop course too. The only thing I had was soreness, but I only took pain meds for 1-2 days. I just found cushioning myself with a pillow helped my suture sites enough to get me by. I never had the gas pain like some describe.

My hunger didn't return until about 4 weeks after surgery, but when it came back it was with a vengence! Good for you for staying off the scale. I'm sure you've heard it a thousand times, but this time is for healing not losing weight. Give your body time to recover and adjust before you worry about weight loss.

It sounds like you are doing great! Continued good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
