Am I loosing too much too fast?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I got banded 7 days ago and I am down from 292 to 272 - 20 pounds in 7 days.

I am following a simple food plan right now...

typically protien shake blended with Fiber Bran Cereal in the morning, bean Soup for lunch and egg salad with light mayo for dinner...and Water or Decaf tea all day. So I am not starving myself, but definitely a drastic reduction from the pre-surgery days.

Is a kind of drop (20 lbs in one week after surgery) unheard of?

:)

Josh:

I don't know if that is unheard of but my questions to you would be: Did you also have to follow a very restrictive pre-op diet? Many of us have very dramatic weight loss during that time. (I lost 17 pound in 2 weeks of shakes). If you did not do a pre-op diet you may just be experiencing what most of us do when we suddenly change our eating dramatically.

Also, it seems that you have moved to the mushie stage of eating quite quickly. My Dr. required a few days of Clear liquids followed by shakes for a total of 10 days. The I could eat things like bean Soup and egg salad as long as it was blended. Did your Dr. tell you to eat those things?

I was at about the same pace. I lost 40 lbs in the first month and about 20-25 each month after then the weight loss slowed down. I am actually at my goal weight now and my one year is coming up in October. So I reached my goal in less than a year. To be honest all I have left is some loose skin, which is not too bad. So maybe some plastic surgery down the road. I am an unusual case as I am one of the rare folks who traded a food habit with an exercise habit. I am actually training for a half marathon coming up in a couple of weeks. This is a tip for a fast loser. Use skin firming lotion, (doesn't matter which brand, I have tried them all), go with the cheapest. It seems to help tighten the skin. good luck with your journey and I am sure if you stick with it and make wise decisions you will not have any issues.

My pre-op diet was 1 day of Clear Liquids. My instructions are liquids day 1-3 post-op and then week 1 - 2 soft food, so I do not know why you had such a more restricted diet than mine. I wonder which is more commonly practiced.

Bearbandit, it sounds and looks like I am your before picture right now. At what point did you start using the lotion?

I started using it right away. So I guess start now. As for cheap ones, Suave and Jergens are not bad. or you might even find a generic walgreens. For me it did help and drinking lots of Water. I mean like 100 oz a day is what I shoot for. Especially at the beginning as it helps prevent kidney stones from the weight loss.

I think most people seem to have a 1 to 2 week pre-op diet of Protein Shakes. Some have some lean meat added for dinner but my Dr. said only some veggies. I see you were at Lenox Hill. I was at NYU and everyone there goes for the more restrictive pre-op diet. That is probably why you ae losing so quickly. I would not worry about it. it will slow down.

Bear Bandit,

Glad to hear the firming cream has worked for you. I started using the Jergens at the beginning. To soon to tell, but I figure if it doesn't work, at least I'll have soft skin. lol

what is this bean soup I keep hearing about? and what all consist in your egg salad? I mean is it the whole egg or just the white part?

I too went from eating to exercise. I like the exercise better than the food! I am going to look into skin firming lotion, good idea. I had not thought of that. I have a ton of loose skin and it is driving me nuts!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
