I had the same concerns. I was really hungry the next day after surgery. My doctor then explained to me that it can take three to four months after surgery when you've had a couple of fills before the band starts to really reduce your appetite. I also had it explained to me by Restless Monkey on this website that the band is like a loose belt at the top of your stomach and it's there but it's not doing it's job until you get enough fills where the belt starts to tighten. Everyone is different and the amount of fills that are needed to feel restriction for different people varies greatly. I wish they would've explained that to me before the surgery because it really freaked me out too. I just had to kind of eat healthy on my own the best I could (I'm not that great at that since that's why I'm fat in the first place.) until I got my fills. After my second fill (5cc in a 10cc band) I started to feel restriction and It's much easier to eat healthy now. Hope this helps. Good luck, you will do fine! :):):)

I was banded on July 13, 2009. So I am only 5 weeks post op. I was very hungry all the time until I went in for a fill at one month post op. I got 2ccs. I think from what I understand that you are not going to get that full feeling until you have some fills. The first month is for healing and you kinda have to go on just go on willpower to loose anything. Just eat like your Dr. told you and do not snack. I lost only 13lbs from surgery to one month and I was hungry all the time. But when I had the small fill, I am not hungery at all. I eat the 3 small meals but I am never hungry right now. I do not know how long that will last, but it make this whole thing easier.

Now my mind is still hungry all the time. food is my friend and when I get depressed I want to eat for comfort and am not getting to do that so my depression gets bad. But today is one week since I had my 1st fill and I still do not feel hungry, hope it last. Just hang in there and stick to your meal plan and drink lots and lots of Water.

We all have the full problem but hopefully i will get my second fill on next friday. I am scared i have already stretched mine out but have to wait and see next year , they say they x-ray it only once a year to see if it has moved. I have been more hungrier lately than usual but that was due to not getting my second fill last month on count of the doctor said i didn't need it but hopefully i will get my this month cause i have put on some weight but i am working on getting it off as usual. oh well better luck later on

Sabertooth, they call it "Lap Band Hell" for a reason, LOL. Protein will keep you feeling full longer than bread, by the way. Puree some Soup that has chicken or beef in it, like vegetable beef. Just, please, don't eat things that don't meet your doc's specification of mushy consistency because there truly is a reason for that limitation. Your stomach has not fully adjusted to having that belt put around it, cinching it up. solid food requires your stomach to "churn" as it breaks it down and that can lead to band slippage.

The simple fact is that while the band, with no saline added, does provide a little restriction, you really shouldn't expect your band to truly be able to do its job until you get a couple of fills (at least). Again, they call it "Lap Band Hell" for a reason.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
