Just getting started....

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a few weeks now. I've been thinking about getting a Lapband for about 2 or 3 years now and I finally got tired of the ups and downs of dieting and started the process.

Last week I went to my Primary Care Physician and he refered me to Lap Band surgeon.

My BMI is 41. Had high blood pressure until I lost 50 Lbs and exercise daily. I have high Cholesterol and a family history of heart attacks at a young age.

After seeing my PCP I went to a seminar that the surgeon was putting on. The seminar was very interesting, met a few nice people there and got a lot of info from the Doc and Staff. I was told that my insurance was one of the "easier" insurance companies to deal with when it came to LapBands.

I then scheduled my Psych Evaluation.

I called my Insurance company and went through a whole list of questions that the Surgeons office had gave me to ask them. I have to be approved by the insurance company after all of the referals and first meeting with the surgeon is over.

So in about a week and a half I have a Psych Eval and then 3 weeks after that I have a meeting with the surgeon.

I'm not to sure how long the approval process will take. The insurance company does not require a diet plan.

Just wanted to say "Hi" and blow of some of this stuff that I have been milling around in my head for awhile now.

Welcome and good luck! Some companies approve really fast (mine was one) so I hope it happens as quickly or slowly as you want!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
