DIY B12 injections?

Recommended Posts

B12 is one of the Vitamins that my surgeon says that I will need to take after surgery. I know that you can buy sublingual B12 or go to the pharmacy/shot nurse and get the injections. Someone mentioned to me that you can get B12 injections and do them yourself if you know how. Does anyone know about this? Do I need a RX? I know how to give IM injections, so that is not a problem. This would be SO much more convenient than remembering to take a pill every day or having to go somewhere to get the injection.

Thanks for any info!

Ask your surgeon. And..you may not need B12. I didn't. Not everyone does..

Although my surgeon recommended it as "it can't hurt" it is bypass patients who need it (because of their malabsorption issues) and not bandsters.

So talk with your surgeon and wait and see what your blood work looks like.

And you can't get ANY injectible medicine legally without a prescription.

My doctor gave me a sample of a new B12 nasal spray, once a week versus the monthly B12 injections, it is called NASCOBAL. I don't have a problem with needles so I get a B12 shot every two weeks - you'd be amazed at how much better you feel for about a week following B12 injections.

I have had monthly B12 injections and never felt any different. Not sure why. I keep waiting for that big difference, but it never happens.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
