Hi everyone!

I have been contemplating WLS for the past 5 years. I have "decided" to go with LB. I have'nt called a surgeon yet, because I was thinking of going to Mexico for the sleeve. But my medicaid will cover the band so I'm going to go for it.

I'm extremely afraid. I've been going back and forth for the past month or two. I keep thinking I can lose the weight on my own. I hear some good things and some horror stories and let it go...until I can't button my pants. I've come to the realization that I do need help and I believe that the LAPBAND is just the tool I need to put this behind me.

Thanks for reading.:scared2:

I'm getting banded on Sept. 2nd and I think what we're (yep, me too!) feeling is normal. I've been on weight watchers for 3 months and am down 21 pounds. It would be easy to cancel the surgery and think I can do it on my own, but I know I can't sustain a diet long term. I know because I've gotten to this point before and just end up giving up for one reason or another (always gaining more than when the diet started). At the end of the day, I just really know that I need more help....still I go from excited to terrified about every 10 minutes!!

May I say...get the surgery that you want, once you've researched it? If you really want the sleeve, go for that, wait until your ins will cover, appeal, whatever.

They are both BIG steps requiring big changes. For years my ins would only cover bypass. So I waited. Do I regret it? NO. I still don't want bypass for myself (works for many, but it's not for me) So don't sell yourself short.

I agree with Restless. I wouldn't settle. I really had my mind made up for exactly what I wanted. I personally did not want any cutting to my stomach involved which is required for the sleeve and obviously bypass. I just did not want any part of that. My own personal choice. I have absolutely no regrets and I am so happy with my choice. Please be sure what you really want so you can say you have no regrets later.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
