Pay it forward clothing exchange

Recommended Posts

So I do my best thinking in the shower. As I was getting ready to pack my things for a afternoon and evening at the beach and desperately trying to find clothes that fit me since most are all now huge on me, I thought I can't be the only one going through this. Wouldn't it be nice if we could start a clothing exchange system where we send a particular size clothing to somebody in need of that size. There are still many details that would need to be ironed out but I thought perhaps this is doable.

Feedback (without rudeness) is greatly appreciated.

Donna

First Donna let me say that I'm jealous of your beach adventures...I'd die to be on the beach right now :wink2:

I think it's an awesome idea. There is a group on here that is a clothing exchange group, but I don't believe it's too active. My doc's office also offers one at support meetings too.

Get it rolling!

No rudeness from me here. (just this once.)

I think it's a great idea.

I'll tell you from experience that to replace my wardrobe cost me several thousand dollars.

I donated everything I had (mostly) BUT, if I had had the option, I would have rather given it to someone SPECIFIC, who I knew would take good care of it and get some good use from it.

Perhaps the Mods will take note and speak to Alex about making this a component of LBT. It wouldn't be hard to set up an exchange like this.

My support group does this too - usually we meet on Mondays, 2 weeks for RNY and 2 weeks for lap band folks (I go to all of them), and whenever there is a 5th Monday in a month we do something special, clothing exchange, Protein Drink tastings, in a combined meeting. I've been happy to give my clothes and take others, it's so fun - try a different style that you might not usually try, and amazingly, I've seen things cycle a few times already in the last 6 mnths (usually from the RNY folks who lose faster).

There is actually a group on this site with clothing exchanges. I will look and see where it is. I went on vacation last week and was going through all my clothes... I have so many nice things that I don't just want to give to someone who will not appreciate them. I would rather donate or exchange to someone that is on this journey with me. I will see if I can find that group:redface:

I think it is a very good idea. I have some clothes that are hardly worn and could really help someone. I am already looking at having to get new clothes. The one part of the journey that sucks is pulling out money for new clothes.

This--I know people who have lots of clothing in their closet they don't wear (with tags) I'd much rather give to someone in transition from a larger size and through the size I give them, knowing that it'll get some use!

I just tossed a fantastic pair of olive green Ralph Lauren shorts into the "too big" pile!! Those have to see some more use!

I'd also join something on here.

Ok I remembered how to get to the group that was already created...

Go to the "community" tab at the top of the page and select "social groups." Search for "clothing" and the group The Clothing X-Change will pop up. With more people joining the group, hopefully it will be more active!

Thank you Unforgettable, I will check it out.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions, input and HH for not being rude.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
