Any wine drinkers out there?

Recommended Posts

Used to be a beer drinker. No fizz for me anymore.

I do like to drink 1 or 2 glasses of wine most evenings usually before dinner on an empty stomach (then eat). I may drink 3 or 4 glasses on a weekend night.

So many different recommedations out there. Calories aside.... Has anyone been told this will harm your lap band?

As far as I know, its just the empty calories at issue.

Cheers!

You are talking 150 plus calories per glass of wine (depending upon glass size). I've not been loosing and realized that my liquid calorie (wine & an occaisional martini) consumption has increased. I believe this is why I haven't been losing recently. So I figure I'm going to give it up (except for special occasions and include it in the calorie total) until I hit goal.

Good luck.

You are most likely right Merry. I was reading further on this subject after reading your reply. I too have been drinking more and more. It made me realize that I need to be careful on the "transfer of addiction" danger. Never thought I was a food addict until I got banded. Denial (the Nile) aint just a river in Egypt you know? I too haven't lost weight for a while. Thanks for the input.

I drink Wine occasionally but I do notice that you get more affected by it quicker. Just becareful of that.

I'm a big wine drinker and really have to watch my intake as it affects me a lot faster now than when I was 100 lbs heavier, (duh). My max is 2 glasses. I find I do better if I wait until after I eat so it doesnt affect me so much and because there is some restriction so that naturally slows me down also.

Good luck with this!

Sam

How long did you wait until you had wine after surgery. I am only 16 days out but would have loved a small glass of red wine tonight.

I'd have a glass maybe four nights a week.

I find to not affect my weight (and more importantly to not affect my food choices) I have to keep it to a reasonable glass (not a fishbowl!) and not drink every single night.

But moderate wine consumption has significant health benefits. There's no need to cut it out entirely.

I actually like to eat my dinner and THEN sip a glass of wine over the evening.

Thanks, Padanelle. I get to start "soft" solids like chicken and fish on Thursday. I am definitely going to pick up a bottle of wine to go with it!

I think my dr told me to wait about 1 month and then drink 1 glass and see how I do. He said sometimes, especially when you are newly banded and getting fills "drinks" can cause irritation. I think it is pretty much individual. I have been having some heart burn and was wondering if that could be it. I think it is just plain old stress because it is better on the weekends.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
