Here is my recipe for delicious, very quick Beans and tofu (if you don't like tofu or you don't want to mush it with the fork then just leave it out):

Ingredients:

Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Onions, Tomatoes (or substitute the onions and tomatoes for a finely chopped salsa...better for mushy stage), Tofu (Nasoya Cubed Tofu is great for this), Canned Black Beans (fat free), Canned Refried Beans, Low-fat cheese.

Directions: Chop the onions and dice the tomatoes. Sauté these, along with the tofu, in a frying pan with a little EVOO. (For mushies, the onions should be soft and limp...you may even want to leave them out along with the tomatoes...if you keep them in just chop the finely to begin with and mush them very well before you eat them). After the onions, tomatoes, and tofu are sauteed (you can cook them as much or as little as you like), add the black and refried beans. Let this cook until all the ingredients are mixed well and nice and hot. You can add some salsa and low-fat cheese if you want as well. For mushies, finely chopped salsa would be good for taking the place of fresh onions and tomatoes. Serve hot and enjoy! I also sometimes eat this with half of an avocado on the side which is DELICIOUS (and can also be mushed, of course)!

i had my surgery exactly one week ago and i have already moved ahead on my diet. (my doc said that if i are feeling hungry on the liquids or the semi-solids= yogurt, pudding, jello- then i could move on.) anyway, i have already started to eat a few things from the 3rd stage, like i ate a meatball for lunch today.

anyway, a few things that i really, really liked were:

- refried Beans (apparently everyone does)

-mashed yams (if normal mashed potatoes are too bland and you like yams, then bake it in the oven until it is super soft, peal, add some butter and mash it... just like mashed potatoes, but with a different taste)

-if you can find Nutella in your grocery store (which i think you can), mash a banana with a fork and add a tiny bit of Nutella for flavor. very yummy!

- i have been eating a lot of cheeses. string cheese is good, just eat it really slow. like on stick should last at least 10 minutes. i have also had swiss and cheddar cheese and they were both great.

hi everyone! great to read all of your recipies. i'm one week away from starting the mushy diet and i can't wait. in the meantime have any of you tried anything really spicy? i have a real urge for a delicious spicy Thai curry Soup (broth) but don't know if it is going to cause a problem. any suggestions?

I eat Curry Mee Soup (without noodles) and Tom Yum Soup on a regular basis. And I go to a Thai/Malay place in chinatown. It is really strong flavors and VERY spicy (its not 'watered down' food for the general population lol). I have never had a problem. I hope I never do because I LOVE Tom Yum. I also make soon dubu (Korean soft tofu stew) and that is even way spicier than tom yum or Thai curry and have never had an issue. Good luck and enjoy your soup broth!!

My first suggestion is to get the Magic Bullet. You can make so many things easier to eat.

My favorite is roast chicken with tomatoes. I use the chicken I made for the rest of the family for dinner. Shred a few pieces of chicken (you won't need much, you'd be surprised how it stretches) about 3 cherry tomatoes and that's it. It makes a nice consistency and the Water from the tomatoes keeps it very moist (no choking).

I make my own chicken salad as well, just roasted chicken with 1 teaspoon of lowfat mayo, some Mrs Dash and you've got lowfat chicken salad. The store bought is usually not low fat.

I also do the mushy stage after fills, so I have gotten a lot of use from the Magic Bullet.

**Just be sure to measure, because with slider foods it is easy to overeat.

Happy eating!

Tried anything really spicy? I live in southern Louisiana! I love spicy! I used Tabasco sauce on many of my foods and it doesn't give me any problems. Just make sure you will be able to do without any liquids while eating the spicy dishes. Be careful. If you get it too spicy, you may be tempted to drink with your meal.

One thing that is quick and easy and also pretty good for you and I swore by it because it tasted so much like real food that you begin to crave---Wendy's chili and just put it in your processor--it's fabulous. Also, baked potato Soup.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
