I had surgery March 25, 2009

the only time I loose wait is after a fill and then Im right back to where I started

Anyone else in the same boat with me?

Im trying to attribute it to the fact that I started at 211 pounds but Im still felling kinda down:bored:

I'm doing a little better than you - was banded Jun 8 and lost around 30 lbs since the 2 week pre-op. I was loosing nicely, but when I started solids the scale started going the other direction. After my first fill, being back on liquids/mushies for 4 days, I lost 4 lbs in 3 days, but again started to plateau. I weigh myself everymorning, and keep struggling with the same 2 lbs. Since I keep a journal of what I eat, I can usually track the weight gain to what I ate/drank. But its sooooo frustrating, since I am consuming a fraction of what I ate in the past. I go for my second fill this week. Hopefully more restriction will help. As they say, one day at a time...

i totally understand your frustrations... i started at 213 and am only down 17 or so... i go back and forth between 201 and 195... i'm so frustrated with you two. i hope that eventually once i get to my "sweet" spot i will start losing on a more consistent basis. I was prepared to lose slowly, i wasn't prepared to struggle over the same 5 or 6 lbs.

it's hard to stay motivated and on track when i feel like i'm the one doing all the work and this "tool" isn't doing anything. but i'm still working on it.

It is still early days, you probably just haven't reached your 'sweet spot' of restriction yet. some people take quite a few fills to get there.

You have still lost over a pound a week which is pretty good and yoou are a whole lot lighter than you would have been without a band.

Why not make an appointment for another fill?

Sue

Hello,

I am right there with you guys. Surg on 03/11/09- 204 and For the last month i was at 185-187, and like you i went to get a fill ( i am now to 6.2cc ) this last visit was the 1st time i felt immediate restriction w/ drinking Water in the waiting room. I loved it, and that was just last Tuesday I got my (4th)Fill and weighed in at 186,, went to the Dr. Wed. and weighed in at 183... and today Saturday I am 181... and i already know i am going to struggle to hit under 180... i guess thats the wrong attitude but thats just how its been going.

I am going to up my work out to 1 hour a day for 4 days for the next two weeks and see how it goes..

But i am happy that my numbers aren't going up.. down and steady , slow and sweet,,,, I will take it, and thank the good Lord for it. Good luck to everyone... i will check back with you guys.

It gets more difficult as your weight decreases and I was so afraid to begin solids in fact I waited until after I was allowed and my surgeon admonished me and told me to start the solids. I did and I am now actually losing more weight but I am being very, very careful about what I eat and when I eat it and exercising too. It is so hard to go up and down over 3 or 4 lbs over and over again but just keep working at it and don't give up. It looks like everyone on this thread has seen the same issue. Hang in there. I am 16lbs away from onederland! Yeah!

I've struggled too, but have managed to loose 50lbs since being banded March 24th. Is everyone making sure they are getting enough Protein everyday? I am a lot tighter in the morning so all I have is a Protein Drink, (slim fast high protein) I also use packets I can put in a bottle of Water which gives me about 6 grams of protein. There are two brands, 1. is made by the biggest looser 2. is called Protein to go. I have found both in my local grocery store or the Vitamin Shoppe. I have also purchased Unjury it's actually pretty good. I use the vanilla as a Creamer in my coffee just make sure it's not to hot or it curdles, I bought a sample of their sorbet and mixed a little crystal light with it. They also make a chicken Soup. It reminds me of Lipton instant soup, it's not bad. I also make sure I get 40 to 50 min of cardio in 2 to 3 days a week if not more depending on my schedule. I've managed to loose an average of 10lbs a month. But I worry every week that I haven't lost anything before I step on that scale. Oh yeh only weight yourself once a week at the same time of day. Don't get discouraged. We will all make are goals.

I get frustrated too, My weight stands still until my next fill. This last fill i had on Tues.07/21/09 (my 4th) 1.20 cc was put in and i felt more immediate restrictions. The next day I went to the Dr. and had lost 3lbs. That was a shock b/c all month i had only lost 1lb from the fill before.

But I am excited that I am not gaining weight, so that is a plus and keeps me looking forward. The Doctor is pleased also w/ my results... We just have to be patient and let it happen slowly and do our parts in making healthy choices and exercising.

Good Advice on the Protein, I have to admit. I only do my protein drinks/shakes after a fill. So i will surely up it and see if that helps.

Thanks for sharing

I feel your pain. I was so sad last week and really second guessing my decision to take this path. My primary doctor was against this procedure, saying that her most of her patients' average only a 35lb loss......and that is exactly where I have stalled for the last 6 weeks. :skep:

On a more positive note, I do finally have a little restriction, mostly with bread and chicken, but not enough to make me feel full. Schedule for another on Thursday.........hoping very much for the sweatspot.

Good Luck

We don't all lose the same! I've done quite well until recently. But when I hit 220 (down 64), I had to really work at it. I managed to get to 214 (down 70) but have bounced back up to 220 twice. I am finally back down to 214 today and I swear the third time there is going to be the charm. I feel like if I can get to 210, then I will start the steady downward movement. I don't have some driving need to lose 20 pounds in a month, but 5-10 would be really nice at this point, LOL.

I think part of my biggest frustration is that i am getting tons of Protein (usually around 80 grams of Protein or more), I walk miles and miles (about 4.5 miles/5 days a week) and am working hard to keep my calories around 1200/day, and i'm still not seeing pounds gone... i haven't even seen inches off my waist -- just my thighs.

I don't understand how i can eat 30 or more grams of protein - good solid protein, not a shake or anything like that at, at a meal and STILL be hungry (stomach grumbling, headache, pangs in my tummy etc) within 2 hours... I thought this thing was supposed to help me stay full longer. and YES i am waiting an hour to hour and half to drink after meals.

HOWEVER... i do have good news/bad news... the bad news is my thighs are wider than some people's waists (28), but they're down 3 inches from a month ago!!! :-)

Oh well, i go for my 3rd fill tomorrow am, hopefully i'll hit my sweet spot and then i will start losing consistently.

35-40 lbs must be a common stall spot...my mom stalled there too....I was stuck at 38 lbs for what seemed like forever to me, was probably only 2-3 weeks, and then it started dropping off. I think it helps me to vary what I eat - one day I may eat 1400 calories and the next I may only be able to eat 900...it seems like the yo yo helps kick my metabolism into groove somehow. Wierd, I know! I just try to make sure to get as much Protein in as I can and not stress too much as if I pick up a 50 lbs weight I am immediately thankful I am no longer carrying that around everyday! Focus on the positive and sometimes that helps, too...hang in there!

Are you ladies exercising? I started out at the same weight that you did and I've lost 65 lbs. I can't stress how important it is to get moving. Even if it's just 15 minutes of walking it does help. Also, if your doc has a support group try to find a buddy and exercise with them. You'll give each other positive support. Are you also watching the fat and calorie content of the food you're eating?

Last but not least get a fill if you're not losing. You got this operation to lose weight so be persistent with your doctor about getting your weight loss going.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
