I'm about a week out from surgery now. I've lost over 25 lbs, doing just fine with the whole procedures and everything.. but the past 2-3 days something has started happening and it's getting worse.

Im having the worst food cravings i've ever experienced.. i could have just drank a shake and I'll see a TV add, drive by a restaurant and smell the food, or even read something random and it triggers a food memory. It's KILLING ME. I want to eat something so dang badly I cannot even describe it adequately with words.

It's to the point where I almost ponder why I did this so young. @ 28 my vitals are all perfect, other than being very overweight I am in pretty much perfect health. (asthmatic, but that's controlled with an inhaler)

Is.. this anything normal? Will it go away in a few weeks when I can eat some solid food again, or even soft food phase? I just.. not sure what to do or where to turn.

any thoughts or suggestions?

are you on full liquids yet? I had the worst cravings ever until I got on full liquids and now Im good. Hopefully you get to move onto your next stage soon. And Yes Im sure its normal and will go away. You have starved your body on your preop diet and now your post op diet. Its screwing with your head. Once you get to eat again you will be better. I dont know if cravings will ever completely go away, but Id imagine once your not starving your body they would at least get better.

yeah.. Im actually on mushy/pureed foods.. lol.. that's what makes it harder to register for me.

mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, cotage cheese, able to eat all of it no problems..

Me too! I feel like I could eat anything I want. I can't wait for my first fill. I need it now. That's why they say to remember that no hunger feeling the first week after surgery. I want that back!

Try more Protein and less starches which encourage cravings. Eat blended refried Beans, blended chili, cottage cheese, mashed eggbeaters, blended chicken salad.

The high starch in things like mashed potatoes is going to give you a blood sugar spike then a quick dip leading to cravings for more. Cook sugar free cream of wheat or sugar free oatmeal in lowfat milk for added Protein.

The variety and added protein should help. Otherwise keep active and take it one day at a time.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
