One of my SV "rewards" is a tattoo I have been wanting for a long time. I was going to wait until goal however I'm thinking about doing it at 100# lost. For those of you with tats, how has your skin held up? My arms are in need of PS work but I'm wanting to put it on my foot...would I be okay to do it now or should I hold out another 60# or so?

Thanks for your input!

ETA: I have searched posts about tattoos but can't find anything about "feet" LOL!

omg that is where i want my tattoo on my foot and i was going to get it when i reach a certain goal. I want a flower with some fancy scroll work going up my foot. I would say that it depends on your feet. If they are pretty thin and bony (after 100lbs i am sure they are) then i would say 60lbs will propably not come off of your feet but i would ask the tattoo artist and see what he says.

I got a tattoo on my foot about two years ago. The tatt artist told me that weight won't effect the foot tatt, much. Actually, weight loss can make a tatt look better. Unlike weight gain where it is stretched. Why did I choose my foot? I figured it was the one place on the female body gaurenteed not to sag ^_^

It took me over 12 years to decide and commit, lol. Yeah, I'm a wuss. Mine's not shades of black, as many are. It's colorful. I love it. When I was 21-ish, I was told I'd never have kids. Made it through that emotional land mind. I was diagnosed w/endometriosis (part of infertility issue). Then, I was diagnosed w/fibromyalgia. It seemed every time I was turning around, there was something else to deal with.

So, my tat incoperates 3 things, stars, cresent moons and a rose in the center.

the meanings

Stars - Wish apon a star

Moon - Hang your dreams on the moon

Rose - in my tat it symbolyzes life - It is beautiful but it has thorns. I know in grabbing it I am going to get pricked by the thorns. However, it's so beautiful, I just can't help reaching for it.

I too have a tat on my foot, I got it preband about 6 months ago and I will tell you that the weightloss hasn't changed it a bit. The reason I choose my foot at the time was b/c that was about the only area that I didn't feel bluberish! :bored: The tat I choose was a piece of wheat. My husband and I got married in October and had a harvest wedding, so I felt the wheat not only symbolized our wedding, but it also symbolized life in a plant that may not be considered to be gorgeous...ie: me at the time.

The next tat I get will probably be words of some sort, maybe "conqure*" or "prevail", for the way I feel about my weightloss- probably down the side of my ribcage- like under my arm.

Thanks for the ideas. I saw one time where Lindsey Lohan has one on her wrist. I'm not a fan of hers, but she had "Breathe" tattooed in white (so it's barely visible) on the inside of her wrist. I thought that was a really neat idea and would kind of like to do something similar, but not sure what I would put there other than maybe 01-04-08 (my band date). But that's pretty boring, I'd rather have some cool inspirational words.....hmmmm now I just have to think them up.

I have a tat on my foot as well. I had it done about a year before I was banded. Weight loss has actually made it look better. I (sad to say) have actually went down a size in shoes, didn't realize I had gained weight in my feet as well as everywhere else. Anyways, I have a lizard on the top of my left foot. The cool thing about it is that my little sister and I got the same tattoo and we got them done togather. I have numerous tattoos that were all done pre-band and they all still look really good. I was smart and didn't tattoo around my arms or anywhere near my stomach. Good luck

I would suggest that you get something personal that has meaning for you. If you want a 'word' rather than a date, think of what it took to get to where you are:

Courage --- to take the step for surgery

Love --- Loving yourself enough to take the step for a better and healthier you.

Faith --- Faith in yourself.

Those are just examples. You could also do sayings like alcoholics have "One day at a time." Well, I tell myself "One pound at a time."

May I make a suggestion, don't get any of those Chinese symbols. Unless you know some one who can accurately translate and write the symbols of another language, you never know what you have.

I know I will be getting another tatt. But, it will be in my mid-back. Once it's roll-free:wink2:. It'll be a memorial tatt to my grandfather whom I dearly loved!

Maybe once I get near my goal weight, I'll look into getting something inspirational and personal to me. Maybe a scale tattooed on my ass to remind me what I worked so hard for ... LOL No I wouldn't go that far. But, I am a Libra, so I ould get the Libra scales and it would have a double meaning to me. Hmmmm ... that's a thought, just not on my ass!

Ha, Kristine, I love the scales idea. Although, I have serious old lady ass, so no way I'd tattoo that! ha ha

I like the word idea. I might just pick one and do it.

I have a colorful butterfly on the outside of my left ankle and it still looks really good. I was blessed tho and didn't have overly fat ankles. Still had a little definition in them. Not much, mind you, but a little! LOL!

Anyway, I would think the foot would be fine at your 100lbs lost goal. Only you can really decide tho. And what someone said about asking the artist is a good idea. Take a good, hard, unbiased look at your foot. Is is fat or not? Ankles might help you in that decision too. I've noticed fat ankles tend to lead to fat feet so that might help. What do your ankles look like? And be honest with yourself. Maybe take a picture of your ankle and foot. I always see things in pictures I don't see in the mirror.

Have fun with it!

I want more but need to not be spending money on that right now. :cool2: I also can't decide on what I want. Actually, I want several but need to make some solid decisions before I even look at what it might cost! AND I have to find another artist!

I did the same thing, I only tattooed in places that wouldnt be too effected by weight fluctuation. my upper back and my calf.

Hello! I have 4 tattoos (toe, leg, chest, foot). I had the one on my foot done about 6 weeks after being banded. It is a butterfly w/ a scroll of flowers behind it and my surgery date. I felt that the butterfly was a great symbol of my transformation. I got the tattoo on the top of my left foot so that when I could cross my legs, I could sit there a see it easily. My other three tattoos I had done before being banded. So far, all of my tattoos have fared really well w/ my weightloss (approx 70lbs) because I've gotten them in places that aren't too terribly stretched from being overweight. I am planning to have the date I reach my goal added to the tattoo on my foot.

I have scheduled my first tattoo session this thursday. I am so excited and nervous. I am getting a butterfly because the past year I have really broken out of my cocoon. I drew one up and the artist changed it so it would look great as a tattoo. It's beautiful. Can't wait to post pics of it. I am not a tattoo expert but I think losing weight doesn't effect the tat as much as gaining. I asked the women who will be doing my tattoo and she said not to stress about it.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
