How quick can it happen?

Recommended Posts

I have fully prepared myself for months of waiting in order to get the lap band procedure. If it takes that I am ok. I have been big for 20 years. whats a few more months? The thing is things are moving faster than I thought. I went to seminar, consult next tuesday Psych and nutritionist the week after and Insurance said as long as I am classified as morbidly obese (gotta love the term) I would be approved. I am at 41 which she said qualifies. My question is what is after that? Is it a matter of waiting until the doctor has an opening for surgery. Most people say it is months of back and forth but I am not sure if it is because of waiting for all of the appointments. Any input would be appreciated.

Well it just depends on your surgeon and your insurance company. I am self pay so I don't have to wait on my insurance company but I just started this not even a month ago and my surgery is scheduled for July 29th. So it just depends. I would make sure you stay on top of things with your insurance company b/c I have heard they are what holds a lot of people up. Good luck and hope its not to long of a wait to get it done.

It also has to do with what your insurance company requires. Some require a period of self-diet before they approve. Also, you will have to have pre-op testing and some insurance companies also require a sleep study. I have good insurance and was approved and in surgery in less than a month but I really stayed on top of it and pushed them. Insurance companies and plans are so different it is hard to say how long but just keep at it. It also depends on your surgeon's schedule.

It depends...on your insurance, on how quickly they approve and what they need, on how busy your surgeon is, on how busy the hospitals are where he performs the surgery, etc. Mine was 4 weeks start to done, or would've been if I had followed my preop diet instead of doing my own thing.

I went today foy my consult and the psych eval. They told me the whole process goes about 3-4 months if I lose 10 - 20 lbs.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
