I am 6 months post-op and a couple of weeks ago I got the stomach flu which of course lead to a lot of vomiting. I thought that the band might have slipped. tho I started eating more than I use to after I got healed. But now I feel extreme tightness where it is really hard to eat anything. Why all the sudden ? Is this normal ? Because I was thinking about the fill but now ..

I would typically say that it is normal and probably due to stress or hormonal changes. My restriction feeling changes from time-to-time. But because you recently did a lot of vomiting, maybe you should go have your doctor check to make sure everything is still good, especially if you start noticing other signs like pain, food coming back up or acid reflux. I was told to come in and get an unfill if I get stomach flu with a lot of vomiting because it can cause slippage. It could be nothing but it is something you want to think about.

I haven't had a fill in 5 months and my band is suddenly so tight I can barely get anything down and have severe reflux. I spoke to the surgeon yesterday who said that if you have been sick it can cause your stomach to swell due to the lymphatic system. I don't think that is the cause in my case, but I thought I would pass it along.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
