Hi all, my name is Erica , I live in a little town called Lynnville in central IL. it is 30 or so miles west of Springfield. I am married or a wonderful man named Eric, and have 2 kids a 12 yo boy Colton and a 8 yo girl Darby. I am getting banded on Aug.7th at Provena in Campaign. My surgeon is Sydney Rohrschrieb.I am 4 ft 11 in. yes I am a shorty so the weight has no where to go.LOL. I weight 235 and would like to be at 135.A few years ago I did WW and was very successful, but like with any diet it did not work and i gained all i lost and then some. I have wanted this surgery for some time but just in the last year got insurance that covers it. I have working on this for a year now, I got denied a few times in April, so in May i sent it for appeal and on June 23, got news i was approved. Due to a vacation that was already scheduled i am doing surgery in August. I started my pre op diet today. it is not to bad. I was actually under calories set for me. I ordered these Protein Shakes called Chike nutriton. I am trying the choc. now made it a shake with ice. NOT SO GOOD:crying:. Had the kiwi strawberry nectar for Breakfast and I liked it . I got 10 other flavors of nectar to try:confused:.Will let you know what I think of them. I am looking forward to this whole journey we are about to take.

OK here I go. My name is ebony and i am 47 years old. I am married with 3 grown children. I am 5'3" tall and weigh 250 lbs. I too have joint pain, diabetes, and high B/P. I will be banded on August 4th. I am excited, nervous and scared. My doc do not push the pre-op diet, but he said it would be ok if I wanted to do that. I know that doing the pre-op diet helps you to heal and helps the surgeon by reducing the liver. The Optifast shakes is what I will start on Tuesday. even 1 week can be helpful. Good luck to all!!!

Hi everyone!! My name is Joanna and I'm from California. I am 5'1 and 235 pounds....my highest weight :skep:. My surgery is set for August 20th by Dr. Dahiya in Lakewood. I am soooooo excited/nervous! One thing that I noticed was different from everyone else, is that my doctor didn't tell me to do any kind of pre-op diet other than the liquid diet 2 days before. Is this bad??

Oh AND.... does anyone else feel like they're eating more the closer the surgery date gets???!!!! OMG....this is so annoying....I hate it! I feel like I'm eating more and feel the fatest I've ever felt. I don't know what's going on with me

Some don't have a pre op liquid diet if their BMI is not too high. My dr. wants to make sure my liver is shunk so it stays out of the way for the banding. I'll have 2 weeks of pre op dieting! Also, the phenomenon of eating everything in sight prior to the surgery (or start of the pre op) is quite common, but unnecessary (according to most). It's that last supper syndrome where we visit with all the foods we love most because we don't think we'll ever see or taste them again. Fortunately, as I've read, we'll be able to eat anything we want, eventually, keeping good choices in mind and becoming satisfied with much smaller portions.

Hello all.. My name is Karena and I'm from DFW Texas. I am 5'11 310lbs and have a bmi of 43.23 . I have lurked in the forums for years before finally deciding to do something about my weight. Well I just got the call this morning that Aetna approved my surgery!! I was shocked that it was only submitted to them last Thursday and here I got approved already. I was so excited to finally have something to post about lol. I was told the nurse would call me tomorrow with my surgery date. I have read most of your posts and will finish reading them shortly. I pray for all of us to be successful.

Until next time..

Hi. I just got my date- August 26th. I'm 44 and live in western MD. I am mom to 6 and 7 year old daughters and stepmom to a 16 year old daughter. I have struggled with weight issues since 4th grade. I have had success with diet/exercise and have maintained a healthy weight for as long as 7 years (age 29-36), but that's when I was single and had the luxury of making fitness a primary focus in my life. As a working mom/wife, I can't keep every temptation out of the house and time to exercise is tough to find.

I am crossing my fingers that this surgery will help me when my willpower fails. I know that it is just a tool and I have been discouraged by some of the stories of people who have lost their motivation, but I already KNOW that I can do this. I just need some help.

I weigh 220 lbs and am 5'4" tall. I've had 2 back surgeries and still have trouble sleeping because of back pain. My cholesterol is 240. I have sleep apnea. 44 should feel better than this! I look forward to opportunities to support each other. I am married to a man who has never struggled with weight issues. He is as understanding and supportive as most people in his position would be. I've told my mom, my sister, my husband and my 2 best friends about this surgery. I'm reluctant to share it with anyone else.

Don't share with everyone if it isn't your nature. You can do this. I've lost 109 lbs, well, 107 as I thought I lost 4 lbs this weekend but only ended up being 2 lbs. I am almost at my goal weight.

KayVee....thnx for your reply. I don't know about the whole "eating everything in sight prior to surgery is unnecessary" thing cuz it seems pretty NECESSARY for me right now lol. But really, I think I'm going to start drinking Protein shakes in the mornings and I'm gonna try to stay away from sodas too. Hopefully this will help a little.

On another note, I don't really plan on telling many people either. I don't even want to tell my job exactly what's going on. The nurse at my surgeon's office said that I can just say I'm having my gallbladder out or something. But what if I really need my gllbladder out one day???!!! Then what would I say?? LOL

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
