a fill tomorrow but scared today

Recommended Posts

I have had my lap band 1 year as of the 30th of July... At the beginning I was doing ok after so health issues... then they had to move the port as it was wearing on my skin and tearing from the inside. Since the move I haven't had a fill... Did I need one yes.. But I am scared I have been stuck before and my doctor travels in to do this only once a month... I have gained all my weight back except 10 lbs... I guess I have broken my spirit because I have been doing nothing except talking myself out of the appointment tomorrow... Please help

I'm sorry, I haven't been stuck yet, but I'm sure someone here can help you get over your fear. I hope you can pull yourself together to get your fill! It's what you wanted when you had the band put in, you just need to remember why.

Good luck!

I know where you're coming from :) A couple of weeks ago I got stuck so bad it took me two hours of pbing to get it out. I was hungry and ate too fast. Not again!!. I'm going for my second fill next week and I'm concerned about it happening again, but I'm not loosing and that is my goal.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers for tomorrow. You'll be fine, and remember its going to help you start loosing again!!:smile2:

"Stuck" is about 95% operator error. So be careful.....cut your food into bites about the size of a nickel...all of it, before you start to eat. Put your fork down between bites and chew at least 25 times (may take more with some proteins). And, if that Protein is a little dry, take a small sip of Water WITH it to better chew it or use some sort of sauce like a flavored mustard, etc. to moisten it.

I have to watch myself when I'm really hungry because that's when I get stuck. I've learned that if I cut everything up before I start eating, I don't get carried away and take a big bite. Hope it helps you as much as it helps me.

I always make my fill appointments for EARLY in the morning. That way, if I were to have a problem, I can go back to the doc's office the same day.

You sound like you really want to get back on track so chin up, chest out (yeah, I'm poking fun a little....did you smile?), and go get that fill.

I don't know what to say except get your butt in gear and talk to your doctor about your fears. I agree with indoc. You decided to have the lap band and it is up to you to follow up and take care of yourself.

I think I'd be concerned, too. If your doc is only available once per month for fills, what happens if you get stuck bad and need an emergency unfill? They must have a plan for that happening since it does happen.

In any event...what is written in above responses is correct. If you follow the post-fill diet (I do liquids for four days and then soft foods for two), you should be able to tell before you try "real" food if you're too tight.

xoxo

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
