I just recently had my lap band surgery (June 2nd) and I'm getting a lot of diarrhea. Sometimes it seems like it's just all Water. Is this common?:tongue_smilie:

- Thanks.

June 2? What's your diet like? If you were banded JULY 2 I'd say yes it's common (especially if you aren't taking an opiod pain killer)...but June...would depend on your diet.

Are you drinking alot of fruit juices? I was banded July 8 and the nutritionist told me that after day 3 you should start dliuting your juices with 1/2 Water or it will cause diarreha (bc of the too much sugar). Try finding juices that are lower in sugar as well.

Also, remember if you are in the liquid phase, you are pretty much emptying your bowels.. so when you do go, there wont be much substance.

Hope that helps

I wish I was having diarrhea  Since banding, I hold on to a lot of what I eat and don't go to the bathroom quite as much unfortunately. Sorry if thats TMI lol!

My diarrhea started the day before my surgery (when I started clear liquids) and continued for the first week after. I kept thinking liquid in liquid out. I still drink Welch's fruit juice (its sugar free minus the natural sugars) and I still have to Water it down. I was banded on 6/25. Good luck to you.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
