Hello! I was just recently banded on June 30th, 2009. The last few days have been a roller coaster of ups and downs. Looking forward to meeting others on this site as I do not know anyone personally who has done this.

Hello,

I am new here also and am excited about this whole process....also a little nervous. I live in the neighboring state of Arkansas and will be banded in Springfield,MO.

I am lucky that I have 2 friends who have gone through this and am sure that you and I will find a lot of helpful support from the people on this site.

Good luck in your journey.

Welcome and I hope your recovery goes well. I am being banded on the 22nd, a little nervous but feeling pretty positive. I think you will find these boards extremely helpful, I know I have.

I'm in Missouri too

This is also my first time to post on this site. I'm a little unsure of my abbility to navigate though this site, but I am ready to try. I was Band Tues June 30,2009. I beleive I had unrealistic expectaions of my recover. I have heard of so many people back to work in a couple days and back to there regulare rotine right after. I thought I am tough if they can do that I can do it better and faster. WRONG! I am not in much (pain) but SORE. VERY SORE and hungry. This is my favorit food season. I really thought mabey that I was off track because I am moving so slow and still so sore and not in quite the hurry I once was to run the marrathonrace (my life). I think I am more hunry now than with the pre-op diet. But mabey that is because It has been seince before the pre-op diet that I have had any "real" food. I don't meen to sound negative, because I 'm not I have been waiting for help like this seince Nov 1997. I still can't beleive this is for real. I know I am truely blessed.

Hi I am new here too, just joined up yesterday and I am finding it very hard to navigate around this site. I posted something yesterday and i can't find it. I was done on the 25th of June 09 so early days for me too...Last night I really struggled not being able to eat normal food. I am really sick of liquid especially Soup, it doesn't help the fact that I am not a lover of soup either. I need to loose about 30 kilos according to my D.R but I would be happier with at least 40kilos. Good luck to all you newbies, we can do this. :0):smile2:

Hi, I was banded on the 25th of June 09 and I know exactly how you feel. This liquid thing I have found to be really very hard. I am 37 in Oct and I am from Australia. I have a friend who has lost 40 kilos in 10 months which is great she still has a way to go but she is definately on track. My D.r told me I need to lose about 30 kilos but I would be much happier with at least 40 kilos. Good luck on your journey! :0) :smile2:

I totally underestimated my recovery too! Today is this first day I have not napped! I was very suprised at how sore I was and how sore I still am in places! Last night, I started to get an appetite and started mushy foods today.

I am going through little bouts of "what the hell did I just do to my life?" mixed in with hope and excitement for the future!!

Hope you don't mind if I nestle myself between all of you guys because i was just recently banded myself on the 22nd of June. I had a complete meltdown a few days after getting home from the hospital. I'm better now, but being on a liquid diet for two weeks has practically killed my spirit. After having cream Soup once, I was all set. Cannot wait for some normalish type food. I'm going to see my nutritionist on Monday and hopefully she'll move me into the next stage. And hopefully can get the green light to do some exercises. I wish I could say that I had only been sore but nope. I had some intense pain. So that was a little eye opening! I was so happy to make it through my surgery and then after that wore off I was like "wait a second, this pain sucks. And this diet sucks!" But since my surgery I've lost 13 pounds (it's been about twelve days I think) ....sorry I dont know Kilos! :) I wish everyone the best! And guess what, I can't figure out this site either! I just wing it!! Keep talking. Ask for help. Share your stories. It's how we learn from one another! :smile2:

It is really nice of everyone here to be so supportive of each other. I am sure that is going to be a great comfort to us as we continue through this journey.

I'm not sure how to start a new message, so I just replied to the ones that y'all were doing. I am a newbie. I was banded on June 17, 2009. I have lost 37 pounds from my highest weight, but only 17 since the surgery. The surgery went very well for me, but about five days afterwards I started having severe pain in my upper left abdomen right below my ribs. I also struggled with the liquid diet. I began throwing up about twice a day and gave up. I think that was a terrible idea, so I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT! I'm just trying to be honest about my personal experience. I'm doing well now, and am excited about my future like the rest of you! I think the best thing that happened to me is that when I was getting down in the dumps after my surgery, I happened to be over at my mom's house and saw a picture of when I weighed 272. I already look so much better it's ridiculous! It sort of gave me the boost I needed. I'm really excited to have some people to dicuss everything with! BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE! :smile2:

I am really glad to be here tonight able to post with people that REALLY know where I'm at and what I am going through. My insicions are getting ichy. My mom made me some Jello, instead of using sugar free jello, she used knox gelliton, spenda, and koolaid or flavoring. It tast really good but she made a batch that had less Water and was more like jello jigglers and it feeled me up REAL fast. I was a little unconfortable for a little bit but no pain then it disolved I guss because later I got hungry. I was nice to feel full but a little unconfortable. I go to the DR. Wend the 8th I hope they say stage 2 soon. I don't know why it seemed easier before surgery. I guss that just little bit of real food even just a couple cups of food made it easier. I never thought Iwould say this but I am so sick of sweet. Slim Fast and jello. Bible School starts tomorow so please rember me. I plan on taking it easy but that is easier said than done. It is really great to talk to you guys!

Hi, Look I am not sure if I am in the right place etc... so hopefully you are getting this message?? As I said before I was banded on the 25th of June 09. How are you coping with being on liquids for so long... It is killing me... I still have a week to go and then I can go on puree, (like shepherds pie, spaghetti, mashed potato, mushy peas) stuff like that, if I have spaghetti I have to make sure the mince meat is really broken up and the Pasta use macaroni pasta. I can't wait to start having some decent food. I am basically starving myself at the mo because I just can't eat Soup anymore and I am over having shakes three times a day... I find the weekends the hardest. What about you? I have lost so far about 8 kilos, I am going to weigh myself on Friday, so hopefully I have lost even more than that? Good luck to you on your journey and I hope that I will be able to find your message as I am finding it hard to navigate this site. Take care Eileen :0)

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
