I got it to, same spot. I got it a week after surgery and it was consistant every night for about a week. Nothing made it better for me except to lay on it. I dont know if the pressure helped or what. There isnt a whole lot you can do about it.

MMy surgeon did say though if it lasts took long and gets really bad, it could mean your tube is pressing on your diaphram and causing the pain in the shoulder. Didnt make sense to me but he said its happened.

Hang in there!

Thanks. I hadn't heard about the tube and hadn't considered that. That is something I will ask my surgeon when I go in on Tues. Maybe she can check it for me. I am still tonight having very bad pain. It takes my breath away. I hope it is something easy to fix.

i have not had the shoulder pain but my surgeon warned me of it. he said that if it appens, to try to force myself to get up and walk around...kind of bounce that gas out of that pocket.

of course talk to your doc,and for now also check your pulse and blood pressure just to rule out of course any heart issue.

i do hope you feel better soon!

Shoulder pain in the first few weeks after surgery is usually gas pains related to the gas they pumped into your abdoment when they did the surgery. Moving around, rocking in a rocking chair, putting your arms over your head and moving them around and a heating pad (especially on the pain in your shoulder) help tremendously. Moving around as much as you feel up to will make a big difference.

Although many people think it's a gas pain (I did too) someone told me different and it makes a lot of sense. They said it had to do with the swelling from the surgery. It puts pressure on a nerve that goes to your left shoulder. It makes sense. How you lay can make it feel better, not because it moves the gas but because it relieves pressure on the nerve.

I tried all those gas remedies around and nothing helped. Once I was told it wasn't gas, but nerve pressure, just changing my position when laying down helped tremendously.

I had bad shoulder pain as well. I wasn't sure what to attribute it to-gas or the possible nerve pressure. So I did a little of both things- I made sure I took a walk and then I would lay down with a heating pad on my shoulder. That shoulder pain is quite painful- it has subsided for me and will hopefully for you soon.

dhall- That makes sooo much sense for it to do with nerve pressure because when I moved certain ways it make it worse and other ways made it better. Very good to know!

Thanks everyone for input. I appreciate that. I am always afraid I am the only one and it is something wrong so it helps to hear from everybody. I have been using my rice bag (heat). It has helped some.

I have had shouder pain since being banded in 2004, it is the band pressing on a nerve that shoots to ure diaphram causing pain. i know of someone who had their band removed as they cldnt take the pain any longer only to find even witht he band removed the pain was still there as the nerve damage was already done,,, i find myn is worse if i over eat or feel bloated, hopefully ures will only be gas and will go away, but i find its not a huge price to pay for the weight loss i have acheived...

Thanks for the input everyone! I just starting feeling that pain today. I am going to try walking around more when I start to feel it followed by a heating pad.

I am also a week out of the surgery and the left shoulder pain is pretty rough. I am going to try a heating pad tonight. Hopefully it helps. It seems to get better with laying on it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
