I crochet and scrapbook. I have tried just about every craft out there but these are the two I still do. Use to do alot of sewing(had my own bridal business for years) I'm teaching my two grandaughters to crochet right now.

I knit, paint, make mosaics, and hand-build with clay, but my biggest "hobby" is my job as a teacher!

Sigh, Im just so not crafty. I like being creative but i dont want my house full of crafty crap, lol. My decorating style is very minimalist so I dont know what the heck I'd do with a million scrapbook albums. My style is more of the 14 matching leather albums style.

But I am putting togehter my teaching portfolio and just had to do a fairly detailed visual arts diary (doing a teaching degree) I can do those sorts of things pretty well if I have a reason to do them.

I had a home business making hemp diapers for a few years, I made some pretty gorgeous creations and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Nowadays, its running and when i do get a chance, I just love a bit of home decorating - I have a fairly keen design eye and given the budget can put together a fairly impressive room - but sadly, its the sort of talent I only get to indulge once every couple of years. I like really modern, graphic decor which doesnt fit in well with patchwork and cross-stitch and such.

For the spring, summer and fall - it is gardening! I love playing in the dirt - and I mean all aspects of it - weeding, ripping up sods, transporting truckloads of soil by wheelbarrow, designing gardens, uprooting and repositioning plants/shrubs/trees, etc. Hard physical labour that has my hands calloused, my skin bruised and scraped, my nails a mess, knees permanently stained with dirt...just love it!

Other things - reading...reading reading reading. I average 2 or 3 books a week (well written literate thrillers or mysteries, but almost anything except romance, westerns and self-help).

Baking - I can spend hours in the kitchen baking. And really, being banded hasn't changed that at all - I still enjoy it. I just give the baked goods away.

Needlework of all sorts - xstitch, hand quilting, knitting, crochet, crewel, needlepoint etc.

I used to be 'into' photography - decades ago, but gave that up. Now I'm lucky to take a picture of anything once a month!

But no interior design for me - I look at mags and see rooms that just have a nice atmosphere/appeal to me, but have no idea how to recreate it, so I admit my rooms are just 'blah'...nothing special or artistic because I just don't know how to pull it together. I don't have that 'eye' for decorating...sigh.

O.K Tap I need you to come landscape my yard for me please:rolleyes:. I love to decorate cakes but haven't done it for a couple of yrs. Used to love to read but need new glasses. I love to do different types of arts and crafts, but once again haven't for a few yrs. When I was managing quick stops I worked all the time and stopped doing what I loved. I haven't gotten back into doing them again. I don't like to knit or crochet or sew.

Jachut..:).I need you to come decorate my home for me. I have tried but it is a train wreck!lol

I like painting the crafts I make if it needs painting. I want to start to scrapbook. I have all the pictures from my parents after they passed away. I want to use those and make a scrapbook for my sister and brother and all the grandkids. I literally have boxes upon boxes from them. Not counting all the slides and old 48 reel to reel films.

We live on a farm and raise Call Ducks, have horses and three labs. I love to be outside even if it is cleaning stalls! I don't do housework, so I clean outside. LOL If stuck in the house I knit baby blankets for Stanford Neo Unit. They are always needing blankets since every baby is given a blanket to keep. Need something to do? I take piano lessons. When the urge to eat gets to be unbearable, I just pull up my piano stool and start banging the keys!

Luckily I have a digital piano and can turn down the volume (I kinda stink). LOL, but it's all good!

I play the piano too, I just go put a CD in it and turn it on! I wish I had that talent to really play.

This is an interesting thread. I am definitely not crafty either. I wish I were, but I am just not.

I love animals and spending time with them. I also enjoying going jeeping in the woods. And of course, my main hobby is technology. I love the newest, geekiest stuff I can get my hands on.

Susan, I do some crafty things, or use to, but I too love my animals and spending time with them. We just got back from the dog park and two of them are sleeping next to me. I love taking them and they get so worn out they sleep all afternoon!!! Even the puppy is zonked out! LOL

My dogs love the dog park! They have a huge lake there, and as soon as we walk through the gates, they head straight for it. It is all we can do to convince them to come out of the Water. And, like yours, ours absolutely crash for the rest of the night when we get home.

Blklab, I see you and I are the same age. It's a lot harder to learn to play paino now! I took lessons for over 4 years when I was a kid and thought it was all going to come back to me, picturing myself playing a piano bar (yeah..right!..lol).

I have to really practice a LOT! It's fun though. I am about 1 1/2 years into my lessons this time around and still don't feel comfortable enough to play a tune for someone, but I'm getting there.

I'm hoping I can play well enough down the road to volunteer playing at a hospital, church, etc. :smile2:

For me it's photography, that's my true passion in life. I LOVE IT! I can do all kinds of other crafty things as well. Scrap booking, crochet, floral arranging, jewelry making and oil painting. Here's a few of my photos...

I enjoy gardening, reading and cooking. After an afternoon of gardening there's nothing I enjoy more than relaxing with a good book (murder mystery, historic/paranormal (vampire, fae, highlander) romance...).

In lieu of days and days of working out at the gym, I've decided to take belly dance and salsa lessons (salsa w/hubby). As my surgeon strongly suggests that the key is to keep active. Find something you enjoy (swimming, hiking, badmitton, dance....) and go for it. He says that most people stop working out due to bordom - his words, "spice it up". Can't get much spicier than belly dancing - can't wait. Yep, I've signed up and am ready to shake my "BIG" soon to be smaller belly.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
