I have only drank once since being banded and i feel really guilty about it because of all the empty calories (it was bike week). Even though the drinks i was drinking were mixed with diet ice tea i went a little overbroad. I told myself after that if i can't just have one then i will have none at all. it has stopped my weight loss this week because of all the empty calories. No more for me it just isn't worth it.

I had a glass of wine 3 days after my surgery -afterall I was on a liquid diet - and wine is a liquid. Anyway - I do drink with my band - I have a glass of red wine every night - some nights more- Ienjoy my wine - and red merlot or a dry wine is lower in sugar - it is my one treat I allow myself - I did have to adjust what I drank in the beginning as I wasn't eating much - and I was losing weight - so I couldn't tolerate what I used to be able to - woke up feeling not so hot a few times and got it figured out - I do try and stick to wine - although on occasion I will have a margarita or martini - those have too much sugar in them so I save them for special occasions... your weight loss may be a little slower -but this is a lifestyle not a diet - so don't do things that make you miserable. I think a great many of us drink socially. You have to consider the empty calories, but yeah you can drink. A shot of rum is 60 calories. Add the mixers ..... yeah, the calories add up quickly. Having said that, you said you like to go dancing. It's decent exercise.....plan on dancing enough to dance off the calories, LOL!

I went on a cruise 5 weeks after my surgery and, yes, I drank my share. I got a lot of extra exercise with all my activities and at the end of the week I hadn't gained anything (nor had I lost any). One week was a wash post-op? I'm not complaining. As of yesterday, I've lost 70 pounds and I'm seriously NOT complaining.

So have your drink or two or three. Enjoy them. Just don't do it frequently.

thanks so much for asking the question - and for all the answers and experiences. I haven't had a drink yet since banding 2 weeks ago, but going to a wedding this weekend and planning on having some then. glad to know the facts so I can make an informed decision.

I had vodka and cranberry juice last night by the pool. Ocean Spray makes a diet cranberry juice. It tastes fine to me....and no carbonation.

I carry the Crystal Lite individual serving packets in my purse. I order Grey Goose vodka and Water. I make sure to order a tall. Since being banded I am VERY careful not to overdo. Alcohol affects me soooooooooo much more than b/4. I try to order a side glass of water when I order a drink and also skip that second and third round that everyone else is ordering.

Like Alexandra said...alcohol can make you very hungry. I have come home from a date with DH and feel that I am starving. I find that eating cottage cheese b/4 my one drink helps with that feeling. Not sure why. Have fun....be safe!

I find the peach tea to have a really pleasant taste. Also, they come in handy when you order that second water....most pple don't bug you for not drinking....looks like a drink.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
