I was banded on Jan 8, 2009. My starting weight was 213, I am now 180-183. I have been juggling between this weight for 2 mths now... I have joined the gym, but I find my self wanting to slip back into old eating habits... I probably need a fill but finances are tight, I can eat anything, just less of it. I need to get back mind set, only to eat bandster meals. any advice?

I'm still in Bandster Hell too (2 fills in). I have to remind myself that just because I CAN eat anything, doesn't mean I SHOULD. If you can't eat as much as before, then make those meals count...focus on one committment at a time. Protein first, no drinking before/during/after, etc. I'm trying now to work on getting the full amount of solid protein in first and if I wait a little I seem to be less hungry. Old habits are hard to break, I know! Keep saving for that next fill as the band can't do it's part in helping you without it. Good luck! -BG

I was at the same weight for about 3 weeks, but then decided to get a fill & I'm doing much better. I was hesitant on getting a fill because some days I could eat whatever I wanted, but then other days I felt restricted and couldn't eat much. I decided that I wanted to lose more weight, so I decided to get a fill. So far so good. To try other things to lose weight, make sure you get enough Protein in, wait 30 minutes before and 1 hour after to drink around meals, and try new exercises to get more motivated to work out. Good luck!

I am a newbie and I dont' have the band yet (pre-op diet sux):)

I can only give advise on what I heard from an experienced lapbander b/c I have no experience with what you are talking about. I was told to eat half of the Protein on your plate before you touch ANYTHING ELSE. Once you eat half of your Protein then you can "graze" on the everything. Just an idea . . .

I think more restriction will definately help... I kinda feel like now that I can eat more, I dont have the band. I still feel some restriction, but not enough. thank you for taking time out for those in need... I am doing pretty good on what I eat now, I just needed some motivation...

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
