I'm surprised that you would question that I was just making an attempt at humor. You didn't really buy into the fact that I'm basically a nice person, eh? Your bad. I really am. Aren't you?

Man, don't you know that Sanford is thrilled that Farrah and MJ died right when his stuff was heating up! His story died on the vine.

I just felt a couple posts in this thread sounded a bit snarky. Unfortunately I don't immediate switch to thinking it is pure humor, especially since we have had a "history." But I'll do my best.

He should do what Elliot Spitzer did and resign. I don’t say that because he had an affair, but how he handled his absence. Affairs in my opinion are a personal thing, that is between him and his wife. Leaving the state (and the country) for 6 days without informing his staff and the rest of his government is the real issue here. It shows a complete lack of judgment on his part. There are things in state government that only the Governor can do, and he left without putting measures in place in the event an emergency happened. Sorry bud, you don’t qualify to be Governor when you screw up like that.

The notion that liberals/Democrats/progressives are somehow given a free pass when they have affairs is BS. John Edwards was raked over the coals in the media. On the covers of tabloids He was on prime time apologizing.

There aren't 3 people in this country who can intelligently discuss the Whitewater investigation of the Clintons by Ken Starr - which started the whole investigation, but everyone knows about the blue dress. Why is that? Because it was downplayed by the media?

No one but the republicans in Congress/Senate cared that Bill Clinton lied under oath because it was a gotcha moment. For everyone else, it WAS about the affair.

And if the affair itself wasn't against the law (which it wasn't) then why did Ken Starr use tax payers money to investigate it? I've never heard a justification for that. Because Paula Jones sexual harassment case was a separate issue. And once she got the money she wanted, she went away.

And by the way, it wasn't the left who prevented Bill Clinton from being removed from office in the Senate, the republicans controlled the senate then and the reason he wasn't removed is because the evidence didn't support it.

The Democrats/liberals don't have to go around claiming some moral high ground or phoney family values because they prove that they value families with their legislation - minimum wage, healthcare for all, safe working conditions, unemployment compensation, 40 hour work week, social security, medicare and medicaid. All these programs were brought to you by Democrats and they help the least among us and the working families. That's how they show their family values. They don't feel the need to judge others, as the republicans do - like rush, this sanford guy, newt, etc.. they all have quotes attributed to them condemning other people for things they were/are doing - be that drug abuse, having affairs (with newty it was when his wife was dying in the hospital) or other indiscretions.

I've always said, and it is worth repeating, that if it weren't for hypocrisy the GOP (a/k/a Grand Old Phoneys) wouldn't have anything.

The republican party in this country is imploding. I have been enjoying this show since the November election, be it the bizarre rantings of Michelle Bachman, or the silly talk of how people wear their hats by Micheal Steele, or Jindal's odd rebuttal to the State of the Union address.

I suspect the show will only get better.

....speaking of imploding and family values brought to us by the demos: Conyers pleads guilty to conspiracy | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Why do we put up with this crap from ANY of them?

Good question. We have the power to vote people out, yet incumbents get reelected the vast majority of the time. The governing bodies ought to do a better job of policing themselves but they don’t and we keep reelecting them – I don’t get it. I don’t take a liberal or conservative side on this topic either. It seems to me there are crooks wearing both hats and they should get treated the same. When I have a choice, if somebody on ballot is considered “dirty” I vote for the other guy – regardless of party.

Cleo's Mom, I have been biting my tongue to keep from saying what you posted. I'm glad that it was you. I get tired of being ennundated with negative hateful posts when I tell it like it really is. It's like some of the folks here are living on a different planet from me.

I appreciate what you posted very much because it is the darned truth! And the swallows have come home to roost with the Republicans and it is about time!

THIS is what I'm talking about. Nobody has done any such thing, BJean, and you're simply proving to me that you can't debate whatsoever.

You did all you could to goad conservatives onto this thread, then when you got responses that don't agree with you, you call them negative and hateful.

I've done my part, kept my promise, but apparently things have not changed on your end. Consider me out.

Okeee, you're out.

I did not goad anyone. I opened a thread. Anyone was welcome to participate or not.

Fact of the matter is that when I was speaking to Cleo's Mom, I was referring to previous threads not this one. You remember, the ones where the bunch of you ganged up on little ole' me.

We don't agree politically and nothing is going to change that. Thinking that we could learn to respect one another in spite of our differences just doesn't seem to be in the cards, does it. I hate that, but if I can't post my thoughts without you deciding I'm insulting you personally, it ain't never gonna happen.

Ciao, baby.

I just went back and re-read Cleo's post and mine and I have a strong feeling that your problem isn't so much that you thought I was attacking you, it is that you have no good argument for a rebuttal to anything she said. Whatever. I really would like to get along with you, but I sure can't manage it all on my own.

Ok - where's the peace pipe and make sure you put some good stuff in it ...

Cleo's Mom & Kartman - GREAT POST !!! Couldn't agree more..

Since I don't know the "history" that's being talked about and can only go on what's been posted here - it seems to me that something that's being said in jest - is being taken as an being mean and nasty towards another.

From an outsiders view point I don't think Bjean was being mean or attacking you Beth.. You are assuming she's talking about you when in what I've read so far - if she was talking about you she would have said so...

Neither of you are afraid to speak your minds. I wouldn't say that Bjean can't debate either - In reading her post she comes across in a nice non attacking manner..

And I would say that the majority who have posted on this thread aren't agreeing that the dem's try and cover up their dirt - that it's the right wing conservatives who are always preaching about values and morality - when their house is just as dirty as the dems..

I personally think that what goes on between a man & his wife is their business - it doesn't mean that the person can't do their job...

But what pisses me off is that he spent tax payers dollars to visit his gf.. Heck he should have done it on his own time and spend it own $$$. Then I really could have cared less about the whole situation... But that he wrote the trip off as a business expense to the tax payers is WRONG..

Like Rodney King said "Why can't we all just get along"

Indiogirl, that was very kind of you and I really appreciate it. Sometimes I think I'm losing it when I get the kind of backlash that Beth posted.

I know that my posts can sound harsh - and I do not mean for them to. But I do have strong opinions and I guess that can certainly rub folks the wrong way.

I'm with you and Rodney King - we really need to try anyway, eh?

(I've adopted Green's use of "eh" which is very Canadian - I think of her everytime I use it.)

Bjean -

I don't think you sound harsh at all and I am just a reader most of the time on the rants/rave thread and don't post much here... Only when the mood strikes :0)

I love the EH - I noticed it and it makes me smile - it's a great way to keep Green front and center in our hearts.

I think we all have strong opinions -and that's what so great about the USA - We are free to express those opinions..

That's right - this is the USA and we can say what we believe unlike Iran today!

And LBT is a specific place where we are free to express our opinions. And that's a very good thing!

You're cool. You should jump in and post more often.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
