Hi All,

I went for my preop visit today. I learned that I will be injecting Lovenox everyday for 10 days. Also, while in the office, he went over recommending a vena cava filter to have done prior to surgery to "catch" a blood clot should one arise and break off and go the the lungs or heart.

Has anyone had one of these placed prior to surgery? I know they will and can be taken out at about 6 to 7 weeks after surgery.

I am so excited though. I am scheduled for July 7th at 8:15 a.m. and have to be at the hospital at 6 a.m.) Starting preop diet on Saturday, that's going to be the tuffy!

)

Super! Moving fast! July 7 is right around the corner! Don't worry, I'm on the tail end of my pre-op! It's doable!

Hey TopTier!!

I see you were approved!!) Isn't that the best feeling in the world?! Congratulation to you!! What did your preop diet consist of?

I have to start on Saturday and I have to get 130 to 150 carbs a day and 50 to 60 grams of Protein a day, mostly liquid. I can have some low fat cottage cheese.

LOL! No, I wasn't approved. My policy doesn't allow for any bariatric surgery at all! I'm self-pay, so that's how I managed to get scheduled so quickly.

I have to tell you, I actually looked forward to my 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese each day! It became my new 'oreo'!

I tracked my Proteins and carbs on Sparkpeople.com and was tickled that I kept my Proteins up around 80 (average) and my carbs around 80-90 (average-there was one day I had 150g of carbs).

Well crap!! lol I'm sorry, I thought I read you got approved  I can be so dingy sometimes!! My eyeballs are tired tonight, at least that is what I am going to make my excuse to be LOL I haevn't tried Sparkpeople I will try that. I have an example menu they gave me today and I thought I might try that and see how that works.

I can't wait to see us turn into hotties!! :o) :tt2::thumbup::lol::tt2::lol::wub:

The vena cava filter is not a huge procedure. They thread a catheter through the large vessel in your groin. You have a local anesthesia (Lidocaine) and often a little sedative. It shouldn't take more than an hour. It is worth the piece of mind you will have preventing a blood clot!! Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

That's true, Lolagirlie. My husband is the one who actually talked me into having it done, just as a precaution. My doc "recommended" it, as he does to all of his patients. It would be great to have just for piece of mind.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
