Happy Dance! Heart Problems Much Reduced!

Recommended Posts

I just have to report...I saw my doctor yesterday (PCP). I've lost over 80 pounds to date, and am extremely happy to report that the heart issues that scared me enough to lose weight have reduced to the point that I'm normal!!! I had a "left ventrical hypertrophy" condition in my heart (enlarged heart, and a folded opening to a heart chamber) that were putting me on the fast track to a heart attack, so that's when I asked to get banded. That was maybe September 2008. I was banded on October 20, 2008. It's now June 2009 and I'm a little over 80 pounds lighter, and a LOT healthier. Both the doctor and the guy who did the echocardiograms said that the LapBand and exercise have saved my life. I'm SOOOO grateful and happy for the news! I have stopped taking blood pressure medication, and I feel great. While I'm truly enjoying all the nice comments about how much better I look, I'm so much happier that the news from the doctors is really good!

Keep up the great work everybody...it's SO worth it!

Health reasons motivate so many of us. And we are always glad to hear when any one of us is getting the results we all hope for! I'm off all my meds myself and was lucky enough to have not had more serious problems. I'm so happy for you! So glad to know that this has given you back the security of good health!

Congrats on everything getting better for you! This is just one fine example that it isn't just all about appearance; it's about our overall health. Good job!!!!:(

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
