Hi Guys,

So sorry I won't be able to meet with you guys next week!! I planned on taking Monday and Tuesday off work and I will need to be there Wednesday morning to put out some fires. Anywhere in Mission Valley works for me. I am just east of the stadium in Allied Gardens. The library area sounds great! It just depends on what I have going on at work as to whether I can get away on a weekday morning, I work 8-5 or so.

I do have news to share though!! I just got word today that insurance is approved and I just need to schedule the date!! I am having the lapband "installed" by Dr. Bhoyrul. So far I really like him and his staff.

Any suggestions for my pre-op phase as I get closer to my date?

Thanks,

As far as pre-op advice-just follow the directions your Dr. gives you and be strong! congrats on getting a date!:)

Sorry to hear you can't make it but we'll have more for you to come to.

Have you picked a date yet? Where are you having it done?

As far as suggestions; YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO THE PRE-OP DIET! Mine was for 2 weeks and it was hard. I lost more weight there then I have in the past 3 years. Fasting will do that to you :smile2:

Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test

I was thinking about doing this. As anyone done this?

I need to find some place to go to get back on track.

I can't believe that I've done this.

Rec'd this great tool and haven't used it correctly!

I've started a journal but it's hard to stay on top of it.

My doctor is Dr. Bhoyrul at La Jolla Surgical Associates. I went to three seminars and really liked his personality and he has a good reputation from what I can see. He used to be the head of surgery at Scripps Green and then went out on his own for bariatric medicine. He will do my surgery at Alvarado, as my insurance covers it there (otherwise he uses a surgical center used for orthopedic procedures I think). I have started to slowly add Protein shakes to my diet now, thinking that I will slowly transition to the pre-op diet and beyond.

I don't have a specific date yet, but I should know this week! Possibly the first couple week of August. I'm looking forward to it, that is for sure!! I am also looking forward to meeting you guys. "IF" I can, I will try to make it there on Wednesday, but probably not this week.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Katie

Ubermom,

I have heard of the 5 day pouch test.. go for it!! I hope it gets you on track.

Also, for journaling I really like Sparkpeople.com. Their "my nutrition" tracker is very similar to weight watchers except it is calories/carbs/fat instead of points. WW is a monthly fee but this is free! You can search foods that other people have entered also, making it easy. EVERYTHING is in there... Anyway, maybe it will be a help for journaling.

Good luck.. we're all here for you!!

Katie

It was great to meet everyone!

After leaving I called my doc and have an appt. sent for 16th.

I was told that my last visit was in Nov. of 2007.

I'll let you know how it goes.

I feel renewed to have people to talk to not only one line but in person.

Can't wait to meet again!

Thank you all for being there!:smile2:

Hello All,

How are things?

I have a non weight triumph for today!! :)

Took the kids to the beach and for the first time I wasn’t terrified to walk around w/out my shorts. :)

I took them off after getting there and never put them back on. I even got sunburned on my legs. :wink2:

I was in the Water so much, it was great. I was out playing with the kids instead of just sitting there watching them.

Do we have a meeting place yet?

Have a great day!

Oh ya; have my doctors appointment tomorrow. I'll post later w/what they have to say.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
