My surgery is scheduled for June 16th and I am having second thoughts. I thought I was sure that I wanted the Lap Band and not the bypass but now I am not sure. Any words of wisdom?

Carol-

That is my date too! I can tell you I don't have one second of second thoughts. I am excited and if I could do it sooner I would. Good luck to you!

Everyone goes through fear right before surgery. It is important that you dont let that fear grab ahold of you. Think of all the exciting things upcoming for you, happy, healthier, new lifestyle, new clothes. There are cons for everything but for me the cons of staying overweight are far larger then those that come with the surgery.

I don't think I would do it until I was completely sure and ready for it. Which ever one you choose, you have to be commited to the surgery. Don't let the anxiety change your mind once you make it up. It is the best thing I have ever done. I just wish I had not waited until 64 and a great grandmother to do it.

Good luck with which ever choice you make. I don't think you will regret it.

I chose the lapband because it was less invasive. Also studies have shown that three years down the road both band and bypass paients are at the same weightloss. even though you lose faster with the bypass, after about three years most people tend to gain weight back, because the somach stretches. Lapband patients also get the satisfaction of having this be adjusted forever something a bypass patient doesn get. I hope that helped.:cursing:

I picked the lapband because it is less drastic then the by-pass and more effective- with the by-pass you can stretch out your new pouch and then gain all your weight back. I have a friend who did this. The lapband if you get to a stand still you get a fill and you can jump start your losing again. I have spend months on the boards before deciding to do this- when I finally decided I had my surgery date in a week for July 16th.... you also don't get the "dumping" effect with the lapband- with both you need to eat slow and chew well and not drink with your meals.

Good Luck and call on me any time!!

I had the same thoughts as you the day before my surgery which was last Thursday (6-4). As of now, I still wonder if it was the right decision for me only due to soreness and lack of weightloss thus far. I'm strictly on a clear liquid diet until the 16th and thought the weight would just fall off, but it seems my body is in starvation mode and hanging on to every thing I have. I hope to see at least 10-15 pounds gone by the end of next week though. :ihih: I have several friends who chose bypass over this procedure and their weight has fluctuated over the past few years something that can be controled by the lap band. I wish you much success on your journey.

I was banded yesterday and I was scared to death. I almost changed my mind at the last minute. Just keep in mind this is for your health and will be for the better. I had my surgery at 10am on tuesday and was home by 5 pm and keep in mind I had a two and half hour drive from the hospital. The most pain is at the port site and the gas pains in your back and shoulders. I do not regret having it done and I will keep you in my prayers.

You also have to remember, weight loss right after surgery isn't going to happen over night. Remember all those IV's you were hooked up to, you are full of Fluid, Plus your intestines are still sluggish a few days after surgery and even more if you are still taking your pain medication, so your not getting out the waste that way either. Key is to drink lots of liquids and get your Protein going, things will start moving along better, and the weight will come off. Good luck guys..!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
