My Hubby has cataracts

Recommended Posts

My hubby went to the eye doctor yesterday. He has been having trouble with his vision since last fall. The doctor referred him to a specialist because he has early stage cataracts. My husband is only 35y/o. He had a kidney transplant in 2000 and one of the side effects of his medication is possible formation of cataracts. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, he is having a tough time dealing with this. I know and he knows they can fix the problem with surgery, but he has already been through so much with his kidney and everything. Thanks for listening!

Oh I can sympathise with him as I've recently been diagnosed with a genetic disorder called map dot fingerprint dystrophy which causes constant erosions and ulcerations of my corneas.

I can understand how frustrated and upset he must be feeling. But laser surgery techniques are excellent these days and corneal grafts are amazing too. He will be OK.

Oh- I am so sorry tohear about this. The good news is hopefully something can be done to help him reverse the process in the early stages. You will both be in my prayers. God Bless you !

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear this. But like Jachut said, the advances they have made with vision care are amazing. I'm sure this will turn out okay, but I'm sure to that it must be terribly frustrating and hard for the both of you.

I'll keep y'all in my htoughts...

Is he still on the medication and is it going to continue making cataracts?

My mother had cataract surgery on both eyes about 5 years ago (at 68) and now she sees WAY better than me. She recovered within a day and had no ill effects at all.

It is frightening and frustrating to go thru this, but we are so lucky to live in a time when modern medicine can actually fix some of our ills.

Sending you waves of comforting energy and light...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
