What is the difference between pbing and vomiting?

Recommended Posts

What is the difference between the two or are they the same? If not, is pbing ok and or how often would be ok?

PB'ing is when your chewed food comes back up in the same form as when it was swallowed. It often comes up in a burp, cough or hiccup and sometimes just comes up on its own. It is a sign that you are not eating properly (for instance: bites are too big, not chewing, eating too fast, eating too much etc.) It is not OK because it means you are not following the eating rules.

Vomiting is when your food comes up along with stomach acid. Among the many other general causes for vomiting (flu, bad food etc.) as bandsters, being too tight or band slippage could be the cause. We of course want to avoid being too tight and slippage but we also want to avoid the actual wretching motion of vomiting because it can actually cause slippage.

Jodi is correct. PBing may also be accompanied by an accumulation of slime or mucus. If I've eaten to quickly or got something stuck in my stoma, I start producing a lot of saliva. If you PB up the offending tid bit of undigested food from your pouch, it will often times be tangled up in a wad of slime. It's not sour tasting like vomit. It's a horrid thing, but seems to happen more often when you're more restricted. I didn't have a PB or slime for a year after surgery. The tighter I got, the more often it happens. But don't be frightened by it. It's the body's way of easing it out or through the stoma. Just discontinue eating and let the stomach rest. Vomiting is where the food has dropped from your pouch, through the stoma to the actual stomach. when it comes back up it's partially digested and mixed with stomach acid so it tastes terrible. There is quite a bit of force needed to get stomach contents through the stoma so it could be a little painful. It's not good for the band. So try to avoid it as much as possible. If you get a flu or virus, see about getting some anti vomiting medication as quickly as possible.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
