3 pound weight loss

Vines.....You are such an inspiration and always there with kind words of encouragement and that means a WHOLE lot! I shy away from the scale because I don't want to get discouraged when I plateau, which I know I will do. Sounds like the scale might be falling slowly but those NSV's are coming in and I have to admit, whenever I get one of those, I'm on cloud 9! Like I said earlier, you are such an inspiration and you should be so proud of yourself!

One of the meds is an inhaled steroid, but I believe that it is not prednisone. I've been on prednisone so much that I have a standing prescription for it. I cannot even begin to express how much I hate it. That's one of the reasons I gained weight before my surgery.. I had to do a couple of different courses of it between the consult and the surgery. It's beyond frustrating when they tell you that you must loose weight, but then put you on drugs that are garenteed to cause you to gain weight. Oh, and 60mg is notthing compaired to what I would need to take.

I suppose to chose weight gain over death. Funny how it got to the point where my weight was killing me.

Maybe I don't own a metabolism any more.

Thank-you Becky for your kind words. I hope you are tracking all your NVS, along with their date. My list of NSVs is often the only thing that keeps me going, the only think that keeps me from giving in and giving up.

Congratulations, Crystal! Slow weight loss sucks, but when you eat as much ice cream as I do, it's a part of life. I dropped out of the summer challenge because of my female trouble; I'm going even more slowly than you are. A grand total of 0.5 lbs. down since June. By the time I'm dead, I might be able to wear a size 10 in my casket. But I feel great and, like you, things fit better, even if the scale doesn't show much of a change. Keep up the great NSVs!

There is no way you were getting in 1000 cal a day.

I thought you ate like a bird

pump up the calories & maybe the weight will start to drop again. It might be worth the try for a day or two.

PREDNISONE! OMG!! That stuff'll blow ya right up! We once had a cat that had to be on cortisone (same dif) and w/i 3 months she had gained so much weight she didn't look like the same cat at all. I'm sure you've talked to your doctor about varients? More than one doctor? It's really hard on your bones too, isn't it?

Vines, you poor thing! I can't believe you've lost anything at all on prednisone. It's like you're swimming against a rip current!

If you haven't already, talk to your doc about maybe taking testosterone (or something else) to offset the prednisone. Testosterone helps your bones and can help your metabolism. I've been on a low dose a couple of months now. Quite honestly the only side effects I've noticed is I'm hornier than heck and want to strangle other drivers on the road (I mean it, that aggressive driving stuff really IS a testosterone thing!).

In my experience many standard AMA docs are loathe to do all the hormone testing a woman past 40 needs (I'm not sure how old you are or if that applies). But if you push, you can often get them to order tests that can help you. I do believe prednisone is one of those things that can screw up your hormones. If you haven't already done this and are interested I will make a list of all the tests my wonderful "Woman Specialist" doc ordered and you can see if you can talk your doc into ordering them.

I've had 2 other friends (all midlife women) go to this doctor I go to and she pretty much orders the same things, but we've compared our results and *whew* do they ever differ! It's interesting.

Anyway, don't mean to go on, but if there's even a possibility this could help you.... anything worth a try, uh?

I've been thinking about this, and I really believe that I've been within the range of calories. So yesterday I tracked everything, and I came in at about 1400. I'll admit that yesterday was a big food day for me, but I find that after I work out I'm really hungry. When I'm hungry, I eat....

For lunch I had some chicken breast w/ BBQ Sauce (gotta find a different one) and dinner was about 1/2 a t-bone with mushrooms and onions, some broccoli and some mac'n'cheese. Okay, not much mac'n'cheese, about 1/4 cup

ok, Im getting personal here, but what about Water and voiding?

Are you drinking enough Water?

and are you pooing regularly?

Im still thinking the meds have something to do with this. ***Im editing to add this** Have you checked the list of side affects on your meds?

I believe I'm getting enough Water, but today I'm tracking that as well. Just because I *think* I'm getting enough of something (or not too much of something else) doesn't mean reality matches up.

Thanks for asking Paula, and yes, uhm, every thing is coming out all right, as it were.

I have not checked recently to see if my meds cause weight gain. I am not currently on prednisone, but I was prior to being banded. I can't think that previous use of steroids would impact my current weight loss. But one of the very first things they want ot do to you here in SE ID is put you on a course of prednisone if you come into the ER with an asthma attack. If my oxygen is below 90%, they put me on steroids.

okay, yesterday I had about 1300 calories. I also had about 58 oz of Water.

Excersize level for the last two days: 30 minutes of yoga, 40 minutes of belly dance, about 60 minutes walking.

VInes, when I was on prednisone for my lupus I gained 40lbs in two months! I could have eaten the broadside of a bear! ANY steroid(your inhaler) Is gonna make you retain weight. Not just prednisone. I also did some research and just like the atheletes who take the metabolic steroids regular prescribed steroids accentuate muscle building too. That is why you are shrinking in inches cause the fat is turning to muscle. In order to balance the 2 I think you need to probably work out more. When I gained the 40 lbs I joined a gym and went 4x a week I lost 20 lbs that month, but stopped working out(hard to do with lupus pain). It did help. Oh yeah I was on prednisone for 5 years took it everyday. You are doing FANTABULOUS considering the steroids. They are medically necessary but they sabotage any diet or weight loss plan. I am rooting for you if anyone can beat the steroid demon you can! HUgs from one Diva to another!

Glad to hear your tracking everything. I had to admit to myself a few days ago that my Water intake was again poor at best. Its funny how we drift back into old habits so readily.

Well one way or another I think your totally on the right track & meds or no meds your looking FABULOUSOOO!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
