Getting Banded on June 11th!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I've been playing around on the site for a few days now and thought I'd make an introduction. My name is Jessica. I'm 26 years old. I just completed my Master's degree a couple of weeks ago. I'm from the Philly area (for now).

I am getting banded on June 11th by Dr. Ian Soriano (Temple University Hospital) and am SO excited! I have been on my pre-op diet for 3 days so far, and am doing okay. I've actually lost about 6 lbs so far. I'm not really hungry...the biggest obstacle is getting through the cravings (especially for carbs and other fatty foods). I have actually been staying inside mostly, for that reason. I went out today and walking through the city, there were so many smells from all of the amazing restaurants....anyways, it didn't make it easier!

I also created a blog: Violinist With A Band . I will really try to update it regularly. Its my first blog!

Happy to be here and looking forward to sharing experiences!

Hi Misty! Thanks for your reply! Where do you live? My initial search for surgeon was nerve wracking, as I didn't know anything about any of them. I defintely had to do a lot of research to find the one I was comfortable with and who also had a reputation for being an excellent surgeon.

On another note, my surgery got postponed to June 18th. So looks like I'll have to wait an extra week. Ah well. I'm still so excited!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
