I have been reading so much about different pre-op tests. The only test I have to do it some blood work. No x-rays, or upper GI stuff. Is this normal?

I am in Aus so things here are a bit different. I had to have a chest X-Ray and a spirometry(lung function ) test. It was decided I didn't need the sleep testing.

I see my surgeon this afternoon so not sure what that involves. My op is next Tuesday.

I think it depends on your surgeon/doctors and insurance.

I have to do the endoscopy, blood work, ekg, echo, stress test, and sleep study. I am not too happy about the sleep study, I have pretty much perfect health (except being overweight of course) and I have no breathing/sleeping problems and he himself even said everything was great but he does the sleep study with everyone regardless. Ugh .

If you feel you need to get something checked just ask your surgeon and I am sure he can recommend you but if you don't need it done, then I wouldn't worry about it. I so wish I didn't have to do any of these.

I just finished my tests today(yea!) I had to get a chest x-ray, blood tests and ekg. This is standard for my hospital, I've read a lot of people have a lot my tests and some have fewer so I think it's totally dictated by your Drs.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
