One week of Liquid Diet After First Fill?

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on 5/26/2009. My Dr suggested one day of full liquids ,two days of musshies and back to regular foods. However, i have decided to kick it up a notch by doing 7days of liquids only. Did anyone take the same approach as me? I feel like i have not lost as much as i would like . I am now 226-225 and i just want get to 220! I feel like i have been plateuing .only 20lbs lost since surgery on 4/23/2009. I would love to hear from anyone who did this .

This was your first fill! Until now, losing weight wasn't even the primary goal. Healing was the intent of that time. You are now on your way to your "sweet spot" -- can't predict what fill level will put you there but it's coming. I feel like maybe you're being very impatient with yourself. Eating as instructed, getting 60 grams of Protein or more, plenty of Water, no snacking all will be easier as you get more fill. And your weight loss will come easier to you.

20 pounds in lil over a month is 5 pounds a week. First of all your losing at a very fast pace. This is rapid weight loss actually. U are being too hard on yourself. Its up to you to do 7 days of liquids but really that isnt how the pouch is designed to work. Its designed to work with solid foods being held so you stay full longer. BUT this is really up to you. I think seriously tho you need to understand the surgery makes it clear you would only lose 1-2 pounds a week as normal. and you are twice or more than twice above that! First six weeks really are for healing too. so now your journey begins to finding restriction and My best advice to you, is to realize how much ur losing really is a great success so far.

I do a few days of liquids after a fill and a few days of mushies but I have terrible trouble with fills and swelling.

I do lose a lot during that time.

I do the 10 days of liquid after my first fill. Not by choice! My doctor tells me to do 10 days of liquid after a fill and then mushies until I feel comfortable getting solids down again. I think I made it 6 or 7 days of liquid after my first fill. I have to have a second fill now and I am definitely not looking forward to another 10 days of liquids. But, I am excited at the same time cause that's when I start losing weight.:)

My Doctor recommends 5 days of liquid after a fill, and 7 days of mushies before going back to solids... however I do 3-4 days of liquid and 3-4 of mushies, then my solids until my next fill, which is next week. I have no restrictions right now, I still eat slow and chew like heck, but I can just about clean my plate. I can't wait for my fill, i am excited to have restrictions again..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
