Dr. Adam Glasgow - Dr. Adam Glasgow is Great!

Recommended Posts

Hi Katie,

I just called Surgical Weight Loss Specialists to see if they had any cancellations for Thurs instead of 4/5 but they don't. I'm supposedly on their cancellation list. I hope you'll post how that seminar goes which will give me an idea what to expect how they run theirs. The other two hospitals I looked into were Lahey Clinic (Burlington) and Catholic Medical Center (Manchester NH). It takes 6-9 months at CMC before you get a surgery date...too long for me...I want to get it done ASAP (health issues) and Lahey just didn't seem to have very good followup care, in my opinion. I curious, is Katie just a pen name you are using because your profile says you are male?

Hi Katie...just got a call that I'm now in for the seminar on Thurs 3/25. Look for me I'll be the shortest one there...only 4'10", hair is blonde-dirty blonde, and I wear glasses. Hope to see you on the 25th! Priscilla

Yay! You got in to this weeks meeting! I heard that the process could take 2-3 months between all the pre-op appointments and scheduling. That appears much faster than other programs. We'll see what they have to say Thursday.

I guess I didn't set my profile up very well. I am not a male but rather a 34 yr old mom of 2 little ones. Ha ha! I will have to go into my profile and fix that!

I will look for you at the meeting. I am about 5'7", blond and I will be with my husband who has a gottee (?spelling) and glasses.

See you Thursday!

Katie and Priscilla,

You'll NEVER hear a negative thing from me atleast about them. I am happy to say i was banded Feb 11th! And can not express enough how caring they are and ALWAYS there for you. I have Adam as a surgeon and let me tell you I emailed him and it never took him more than 15 minutes to get back to me. And let me tell you I emailed him quite a bit post op....lol. They are just an awesome practice! You wont regret choosing them. Good luck...keep in touch please

Hi Priscilla,

Sorry I couldn't hang around to chat last night. I had to get home...kids were with a babysitter for the 1st time. Did you set up a consult date? What did you think of the group? I really felt like they were sincere and really concerned about the welfare of their patients. I have a consult date of 4/12. I can't wait!!!

Talk to you later,

Katie

Hi Katie and oceansunset24,

No problem Katie...much more important to get home to the kids. I totally agree with you about their sincerity in caring for their patients. I was 2nd in line to make a consult appt. She was going to give me an appt with Arthur but I asked if if I could see Adam so my appt is 4/16. I'm not sure if I would have gotten an earlier appt if I had made it with Arthur. I thought I should see Adam since I want him to do the surgery. Who is your appt with? I'm very excited too! I have not told anyone except for my significant other who I've lived with for 29 years. I made him swear not to tell anyone! I just don't want other people judging me right now. oceansunset 24...letting you know the latest in our progress.

Talk soon...Priscilla

I had gotten an appointment last week via phone. I am seeing Arthur on 4/12. I didn't care who I saw, I just wanted 1st available appointment I had so I could get the ball rolling. The sooner the better if you ask me. I think ultimately I want to have Adam do the surgery but we will see how it goes. I didn't get the feeling that Arthur was any less competent. The whole family is just so nice!

Both are really very nice! I had seen Adam in consult...and he did my surgery, but my post op appt was with Arthur, who took my staples out...both are very caring...awesome! The nurse did my first fill last friday...going in again in a week and half? i think, lol

I know this is a terrible question to ask but seeing my health/life is my main focus, the question needs to be asked.... is one surgeon better than the other? From what I understand, they both do surgeries, right? Arthur has several years of experience but Adam seemed really impressive and knowledgeable when he spoke at the meeting. My gut tells me that I am in good hands with either but just wanted to get your opinion....

From what I've always known, they operate together, or at least they did at one point...hum... in my opinion they're both equally competent and caring, good luck to all of you and God bless!

Hi:

I agree with others. They're both great surgeons. They've done more than 500 bands, so they've got plenty of experience. They're both very caring people. They both seem genuinely engaged in their patients lap band journeys. You'll be making a great decision with either one of these doctors.

Best wishes to you.

I love my band and my new flat tummy.

Sue

Well, I am on a roll now.... I have my sleep study scheduled for this Thursday 4/8. I see Dr. Glasgow next Monday 4/12, the nutritionist on Wednesday 4/14 and then meet w/ Dr. Newman on the 22nd. Does anyone know how long after these required appointments it takes to get a surgery date scheduled?

Thanks, Katie

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
