all you can eat fundraiser- what do I do?

Recommended Posts

I am invited to a fundraiser and it's an "all you can eat" deal at this restaurant. Tickets are $25 and all my friends are going.

I am still on liquids until my swelling goes down and will not be able to particpate in any of the eating. Even so, I STILL would not get to engage in "all you can eat" at any time with the band!

I can either:

a. go, make the donation, and be the only one not eating at the table and have everyone ask me why I'm not eating

b.not go

It's so awkward! Anyone have any advice?

Can you make the donation and not go?

That way, you've done the charitable thing, but not put your band at risk. I wouldn't reccommend going and not eating. That would be hard. and awkward. But if you choose to go remember to have a good time anyway!!

If it were me and I WANTED to go I'd go. I'd just drink Water or whatever, and say I wanted to support XYZ cause but

can't eat. I'm a "teller" so most people know I have the lap band and I'd say "I can't eat today because of my band". If you aren't comfy with that say you have a stomach bug.

I tell everyone about my band too but personally, I wouldn't go. But, I even schedule my fills around events where I know there's food. I'd have a crappy time if I had to go to a party where I'd normally have fun but not be able to eat anything and have everyone (even though they know I have a band) question me about it and ask me why I couldn't eat anything because of the band that day.

I say don't go. I'm not a teller, and when you tell someone you aren't eatting because you "have a stomach bug" or "aren't hungry" they get suspicious. I didn't tell any of my co-workers at work about it,and about 3 weeks after surgery my boss asked me if I had surgery, b/c i was losing and never eatting at my desk. People notice. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I would go. I tell everyone but that is not the only reason. There will be plenty of liquids there that you can have, surely. Broths and such.

Don't be ashamed of your band. You are doing something healthy. Be proud!

I didn't go.

Also because it would be torture to watch everyone else stuff their face with foods I can't have.

arghhhhhhhhh

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
