Did anyone make it without pain pills?

Recommended Posts

I really hate the way pain pills make me feel. I almost feel worse on them than off. When I had my tubes tied I hated the Percocet they gave me. Has anyone been able to bounce back with just taking ibuprofen only?

Not ibuprofen...it's an NSAID and most docs don't want us to take it. Hard on the stomach.

I used tylenol.

Check with your surgeon about the ibuprofen. Most surgeons say you can't take anymore NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) because they're harsh on the stomach. They may have you take tylenol instead.

I took whatever they gave me the day of the surgery. The day after surgery, i was on Panadol (tylenol). Then nothing was needed after that. I did a 10 minute walk the day after surgery and added 5 minutes each day....still no medications needed. i too get very sick off pain killers....and i sure didn't need nausea. Hope your surgery is as pain-free as mine was.

I did not take anything after being discharged from the hospital.

I think I have a high tolerance to pain, for I have never taken much medicine, with the exception of when I throw my back out and then I used to take Celebrex (which is now not possible). I'm not sure what I will do when my back goes out again (this is a genetic thing, I have a twisted vertebra, and sometimes when I do some weird moments, like painting ceilings, the muscles around the vertebra get inflamed). Any suggustions?

I had lapband and a hernia repaired at the same time. I was given liquid tylenol. I never had to take it at all.

I only took a few of the pain pills the doctor gave me, liquid tylenol was enough for me after the first day!

The only thing I needed pain meds for was the air in my shoulder. Otherwise, I didn't need anything at all. Good luck!

I took maybe two loritab when I got home - I didn't even fill the prescription because I had some of the same dosage left over from my appendectomy in August, and I took maybe four back then. I must have a high tolerance for pain or something.

I had pain meds in the hospital. After I left, I took one pill to get home on, after that I just took tylenol and just lived through the rest of the pain. It really wasn't that bad as long as I took it easy. Loose clothing, sports bra and slow movements were enough to take the edge off . . . I didn't really need or want the mind-numbing that goes along with the medication.

Come to think of it, I still have that original script in a drawer at home, lol. Anyways, it is entirely doable. I would fill the script in case you need it and only take it if you are really feeling bad.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
