Post-op diets! What are you eating?

Recommended Posts

I know I could use some help with this, chicken broth is about to drive me crazy. The smell isn't even sitting so well with me anymore. I'm guessing I'm not alone here either.

What are you eating? Please share any recipes you've tried that you're enjoying, too!

I think you are not getting much response to this because when you are on Clear Liquids there is not alot of options. If you like tea you might try some flavored teas. I mostly just drank my shakes and Water.

Some one had suggested on here once to get some egg drop Soup and strain the eggs. I did this but found it way to salty, but you could Water it down. You could also try wonton Soup. You might go to Arby's and see if you could buy some Au Jus, some restaurants sell french onion soup (you would have to strain the onions)

Full liquids are a little easier I was able to start them on day four and is what I am on now.

Here is a list from my surgeons offfice

Liquid Protein

V-8

Diet Splash

Strained thinned cream Soups (this has given me the most variety)

Lowfat yogurt thinned

Skim milk

and of course the other Clear Liquids.< /p>

I know it's difficult but you can do it! The thing that helps me is find something to occupy your mind TV didn't work for me very well, too many tv commercials.

I cruised the internet and read as much as I could got out side just to get out of the house.

I'm on full liquids now, and I agree with Hallelujah, creamed Soups are the best. I found an organic red pepper Tomato that is out of this world!

For clear liquids, I found that Fuze Slenderize is a good alternative to Crystal Lite (which I've never liked). There are different flavors, and I think they most calories they have are 10 cal. If you have Giant food stores near you, they are on sale this week 10 for $10. It also helped me wean off of soda before surgery. :crying:

Anyone else with ideas, bring 'em on!

Great suggestions, ladies! I love French Onion but I hadn't thought about getting it strained. I've suddenly become really sensitive to a lot of smells since surgery and my unjury turns my stomach instantly. I ordered a caseload of it too, so now I have no clue what to do with it all. I haven't been able to find anything I can hide it in successfully yet. :crying:

Please feel free to share mushies/soft foods ideas as well. And even *gasp* some real food recipes when you get there!

I've been using the liquid Protein Drink in the am and Soups for lunch and dinner. V-8 Tomato Soup, cream of broc with evap skim milk.....Delicious.....

Also, this afternoon my wife put a non-fat yogurt in the blender and added strawberries and 2% milk. That was pretty good as well. That's it so far......and alot of Water ....

Holy Smokes John!!! you have lost 50 lbs.? Way to go.

Ive lost 20 lbs. on my first week, I have been having only Chix and Beef broth, crystal light, SF fruit ice pops, body fortress Protein Shakes (great tasting from walmart), and Water.

I am excited about moving on, especially creamy Soups, that sounds good. I didn't know I could have V8's I love them.

I'm so proud of everyone banded on the 7th (postponed until the 21st due to my lame insurance), As I'm supposed to be on here making my suggestions as well!, BUT I'm about to start the pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. I've worked my way down all week to mush, and as of 6 am, I dust off the blender.

I am taking notes, and glad to see my homegirls spidey mom & halleluja girl are doing good..... wish me luck. Also, My doc says No cream Soups and no red liquids, do to vomiting (they have to be able if your vomiting blood) soo hmmmm???

It was suggested to me that the lean muscle Cappucinno flavor is really good, and the chocolate one (with your own banana's and strawberries thown in) As for mushy foods, I was told to stock up on organic baby food, just check the label for the suger count. The more Protein & Fiber the better. and because they come in like 4 oz jars you can get 2 meals out of it. And it's easy on the tastebuds. Hope that helps:wink:

I am almost positive that Unjury has a money-back guarantee. That was one reason I was willing to try it. I did the same thing with Slim Fast -- bought cases of it, and now the mere thought of it makes me gag. So now I have 4 or 5 cases left and don't know what to do. I may sell it on craigslist. Or, I may offer it to someone at my WLS support group if anyone else can stand it.

Another mushie/soft food idea I had last night was egg salad. I love that and am really looking forward to having some soon! It's really good if you add mustard so it tastes like deviled eggs. Yum!

unjury does have a 100% guarantee! I looked and just emailed them this morning to see about returning these 5 cans that I won't be able to use. Thank you for reminding me of that!

I picked up some egg drop Soup the other day from a Chinese restaurant and then halved it with chicken broth. It was really good, and the egg gave me a little bit of texture and a Protein boost.

I also strained a vegetable Soup and that was quite good.

My Profect vials showed up yesterday, finally. So I've had one of those this morning and have 50g of Protein on board before 9am. Go me! They're one the pricey side, but it's definitely worth it to be able to get in so much protein in just 3.2 ozs. Especially at this stage where I can't drink much at once.

What do you think of those Profect vials? I've been thinking about getting them for post-op, but I haven't wanted to invest too much in something that I haven't heard much about.

I believe you can call Unjury and they will accept returns.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
