Port area really Hurts - OUCH!

Recommended Posts

Hello - I need some help and I cant get in to see the doc.

I had surgery 6 weeks ago (no fill yet).

I'm having problems with pain around my port area. I still cant sleep on my side or tummy yet and any pressure on my port area really hurts.

After I eat my 1/2 cup of food It feels like my port is pushing up against my skin and ready to pop out of me at any minute and it really hurts. I tried eating slow or not eating as much at one time. But still the same problem with my port pushing up against my skin.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal in the beginning with some people? I know everyone's different but it hurts. :) OUCH!

I had gas pains in the beginning but not for a long time now. Do you think I'm getting gas pain again immediately after I eat?

Thank you all for any support.

Even if you can't see the doctor you should call and ask.

Hi - I agree - I put a call in yesterday and left a message. I'm waiting to hear back but he hasn't called me yet.

Wow! That's terrible! As long as it's not hot, red, etc (ie no signs of inflammation and infection) then I guess you can keep waiting (but I'd call tomorrow and really demand some help!) Brace it with a pillow and take tylenol; that should help some with the pain. Where is your port? mine is to the left of my band, just lower than my left breast, and not in an area where digestive gas really impacts it. Depending on where yours is, it may be gas, or something else

Thanks for the info and no its not red or hot just tender - My port is about 2-3 inches above my belly button and to the left side a little. I'll be calling my doc again tomorrow to see whats up?

Thanks again - So you don't thinks its gas? and this is not the norm?

I have no idea if it's normal or not; mine didn't hurt like that but we're all different! :)

Just call your doc again tomorrow if s/he hasn't called you back. It's probably nothing or just healing etc but if it has hurt you for several days you don't want to ignore it

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
