Help! I just had port revision done 2 weeks and now suddendly sharp pains!

Recommended Posts

I had port revision done about 2 weeks ago and felt the normal soreness that comes from having that surgery so after a week I felt totally fine and healed but just yesterday which was day 12 from my port revisoin surgery I started to get some pains and pinches in the port area. What could be going on? I did lift a small dog yesterday that was about 25 pounds and I also worked out my abs about 4 days ago so maybe that is what is causing this. Will this pain go away? I am so scared!

Hi. I had my band replaced about 2 weeks ago so I do not know if the same advice applies. I was told not to lift anything over 10 pounds for a month. I am sure I should not be doing ab exercises either. My stomach needs time to heal. Since your surgery was less extensive, maybe what you did was fine. However, if you are feeling pain, you might want to take it easy for awhile. Good luck.

Walking is very good and usually suggested by most docs immediately after surgery. What you want to avoid is lifting due to a possible incisional hernia.

Hi. I had my port replaced and other stuff on May 26th and I still hurt. This is 5 times worse than the initial banding a Year and half ago. I think that the pain is normal, at least my doctor told me that yesterday. I had other stuff done too....a hernia fix-up, my stomach shifted back through the lap band, so I know the doctor did a lot of internal stuff which accounts for the pain. I wish she could have done a Tummy Tuck while she was in there. Hope you and I feel better soon. Good luck!

Just as an update it has been about 6 weeks now since my surgery and a little over a month since I started feeling the sharp pains but I just wanted to report that it does get better. What I did was I purchaed a gaus from a drugstore and wrapped that around my waist where the port is to help with the pain and to keep it from moving and kept that on for over a month and now finally I no longer have the sharp pinches or pain anymore. I still have if I move around a lot a little achyness from time to time but its not bad. As a precaution I am going to keep my gaus on for another month just to make sure and my doctor thinks thats a good idea as well. Also I just got back from seeing my doctor and he said he can see nothing wrong that it doesnt even move so it could just be inflamation that can take months to heal with some people. So I just wanted to let u know that it does get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
