Allow me to introduce myself...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. My name is Eric. I live in NW Ohio. I'm in the early stages of my banding journey. My story is like so many others that I have read on this site. This forum is such a great way to learn about what to expect (or not to expect) about living with the band. I'm so ready to do this! My biggest fear is living with this band inside of me for the rest of my life. I'm only 33 years old and wonder what it will be like when I'm 60? Do you know what I mean?

My insurance does not cover the procedure either so I will have to pay for it myself which sucks but I look at it as an investment in myself for the next 7 years or so. That's really the least of my anxieties though. I really just want to be healthy again and live a long life. I guess the upside is that I don't have to jump through all the insurance hoops, right!?

Well here I go I guess. I want to schedule my seminar with Dr. Curry (Cincinnati) sometime in May and hopefully by this time next year I will be a lean mean love machine! Thanks again for allowing me to introduce myself. Oh and if anybody has some nice (reassuring) things to say about Dr. Curry I would love to hear about them. It might put me at ease a little bit more.

Eric

Hey Eric. We're glad to have you here. You are right to be concerned about the band.....that just tells me that you're actually putting some thought into it vs. jumping in blindly. Consideration is always a good thing with any surgery.

You might want to check under the "doctors and hospitals" section on the main page. There might be some info on Dr. Curry or hospitals in Cincy there.

So, you'll have a much better idea of what the band entails once you go to a seminar. In the meantime, please feel free to snoop around here and ask annoying questions (I love to do that, lol). Good luck, man!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
