Banded on Tuesday :)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I received my LARGE size Lapband on the 14th. My stomach aches probably 80% of the time. I am still on Clear liquids trying to get up to 64 ounces a day before I can move to full liquids. I am having gas pains. I didn't need any pain medication when I was in the hospital; but, since I have been home the last two days I have used it a couple of times.

As soon as I drink something, my stomach feels funny and I stop. Yesterday was the first day I even got close to 50 ounces of clear liquids......and then wet bowels came with it:(

Overall, I am HAPPY I had it done. I do not feel hungry. I am hoping to get in 64 ounces today so I can start Protein Drinks and cream Soups, etc.

I think my problem is I am taking too big a swallow.

Hi Vicky,

I got banded on Tuesday too. Congratulations to you on taking this huge step!

I am having a hard time getting in all the Protein my doc wants me to get. I have developed a strong dislike for most of the drinks and I can hardly drink them. I just need to force myself to do it.

As for the Water, I have been able to get it in without too many problems. I still feel like a bloated whale and still having issues with gas which is very annoying.

I am returning to work on Monday and I'm very nervous about it. I am afraid I won't have the strength to keep up.

How long are you going to be on liquids?

Brandi

I too was banded on Tuesday - and I still feel very, very bloated. I still have gas pains, in my left shoulder - it kills. It seems after I eat or drink anything, the pain comes back. The pain in my shoulder is worse than the soreness in my abdomen. I feel like I want to try some real food - I'm going to try scrambled eggs tonight. The kids have their cousin and friend over and I'm getting them pizza delivered. I wouldn't mind having some but I won't. I'm noy physically hungry but the brain is giving me trouble with wanting to try things. I still weigh the same as I did the morning of surgery even with only having liquids and some sugar free pudding. I know that is due to being on IV's for over 40 hours and being swollen, but it is frustrating. I guess I want to see the scale move somewhat. Today after taking a shower I put makeup and jewelery on, that made me feel alittle more human. I know months from now I'll be very happy I did this but right now it's harder than I thought it would be. :tt1:

Best wishes on all our recoveries and welcome to the world of lb!

I also got banded on Tuesday the 14th. I was sent to two different nutritionists. One for the doctor and one for insurance. The guidelines on what to eat when are different. One says clear to full liquids for a week to two weeks - another says for the first 3-4 days then we can start puree foods. Personally, I dont think I'm quite ready for puree foods so I am holding off and staying on Clear Liquids and blended cream Soups for now. I just started the Soup last night and one today. So far so good, but I'm not anxious to rush anything.

my Water is tasting different to me though - but it could be the tap source and not me. lol... I need to get bottle Water and give that a try.

Again, congrats and best wishes!!

very happy I did this but right now it's harder than I thought it would be. :tt1:

I tell myself that in a month's time i can try regular food and all will be well. It's not like we can never had regular food...this is my montra...lol I also remember that our tummys have to be feed like a baby...first liquids...then purree...then soft...then regular... it seems to help me out mentally thinking of it that way.

Hi ladies,

I too was banded on Tuesday Apr 14. However I'm in Kuwait so I was probably coming out of the recovery room when you guys were waking up:smile:.(7 hrs ahead)

It's weird, i've been doing pretty good. No vomitting, I don't mean to sound crazy but I almost want to vomit to reiterate to myself that yes the lapband is attached.

I do feel tightness in my stomach and my chest occasionally. And the gas is ridiculous. I went for my post op yesterday, and i've gone from clear liquids to full liquids including milk(SKIM). One great product I found was the Carnation Breakfast drink with 2X Protein, I mix it with 1 cup of skim milk and it was satisyfying. The SlimFast had too much fat so it was out of the question. 5 more days of liquids then puree atlest until I see my doctor again on May 16.

I haven't lost any and haven't gained any....

So how are you guys doing?...I love the fact that we can chat and support each other:thumbup:

Hey Lady, good to hear from you. I haven't weighted myself yet...no scale here at the house. I imagine if I get to one before the docs I will take a peek! lol

I found that carnation drink too - thankfully i got the varitey pack because the one I tried wasnt that tastey. lol.. I did get slim fast because one of the nutritionist recommended it, then i learned another said to stay away. ugh. oh well, what's done is done. I didnt buy more than a pack so I think I will be ok. I can't imagine I'm doing damage since I'm still just on liquids.

Good luck to you Lady!! I agree, I love the support!

Hi Guys,

I was banded on Tuesday as well. Currently I have the hiccups and they hurt! I've moved on to mushy things like yogurt and cottage cheese. I'm having trouble telling the difference between hungry and full. Am I too full and that's why I am feeling sick or am I hungry and that's why I am sick? Aaak so confusing! I'm still feeling a decent amount of pain but trying not to use the pain killers anymore. I had a hiatus hernia repaired as well and I can't tell which incision is for that and which is for the port! I look at my tummy with it's 5 incisions and the staples and feel a bit like frankenstein. Ahh good times!

moonbean - hiccups, aren't they the worst?!!! omg I thoguht I was going to die.

I have three incisions - two tiny with one being in my belly button but I have a 2 inch one in almost the middle of my abdomin and man it hurts like the dickins!!!

I was banded on Monday and have the tight pulling sensation at the port too..........when I stand up it feels like it is getting streched and it hurts..............does this mean it is healing up ..........sometimes it feels like something is being streched so hard it will fall out.

I am on full liquids. So that includes yogurt w/no fruit, Soups, cream Soups, Jello, pudding, popsicles...........that is about it. Made potatoe Soup and pureed it been eating yogurt for Breakfast and lunch and Soup for dinner. I get gas with everything I eat or the burps..........weird, weird feelings in my stomach all week.

I am still in pain. Not on pain meds but hard to sleep at night and move around during the day. I drove today but I plan to hold off on that tomorrow...........it hurt quite a bit. Also went grocery shopping and it exhausted me I had to cancel the other errands I was just to tired..........

So nice to hear other people are having some of the same issues. I thought I was just a being a wimp!!

Good Morning Tuesday Bandsters - feeling better today. last night my family got chinese food for dinner. I sat with them and had 2 shrimp and 2 tiny pieces of chicken (from chicken and broccoli) I also had 1/4 of the broth from wonton Soup. I was full! My nephew kept asking me - you're full from that little bit? (He's a growing 15 year old with a bottomless pit for food - ahh to be able to eat like an adolescent  ) But surprising to me I was full. But I keep getting bad gas pains in my shoulder after I eat. Has anyone else had this problem? I went to the storm yesterday to get some light weight sweat pants since I'm still too sore to wear regular pants and my shoulder would start killing me. I swear, the shoulder pain (gas?) is much worse than the surgery. I take Gas X constantly and move around a lot but I still have this awful pain in my shoulder that comes and goes. If someone has found a way to get rid of the shoulder pain (gas) please let me know.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
